i'm trying to buy a house and im trying to figure out if stucco is more cheaper than a brick house. I heard that stucco is cheap cement so is that the reason? Is it less sturdy than a brick house?

Homes are built with different materials to acquire different appearances, effect cost, and what is readily available...
The cost of an existing home should not change from the exterior materials used... it's based on the size of the home, size of the lot and area in which your buying... Stucco is less expensive because of the labor costs involved... REAL brick is much more labor intensive... The majority of brick homes that are new, are actually thin stone or brick attached to the brown coat... A stucco home is more sturdy than the brick home in the long run, only because over time the mortar will deteriorate...

There is no difference in the quality. Both are built over a solid wood frame, wrapped with a Tyvek type insulator and then the outside is done in either brick, stucco, or vinyl siding. You will find the exterior of the home is usually indicative of the climate and area you live. In the Northeast, more brick and siding, in the warmer southern and west coast areas, you will find more stucco. Personally I find vinyl siding to be cheap. It always looks warped and bubbled and hence reguires constant maintenance. I'm sure all those folks with homes in the millions that are stucco did not choose that siding because it was cheap.

Brick homes require less maintenance, you don't have to paint. Plus some stucco homes have mold problems, and problems with the installation of the stucco itself. I highly recommend brick.

Well, where I live you don't want a brick house because of earthquakes. A brick house will disintegrate in a large earthquake because of the mortar.
So I guess it all depends on where you live.
