We are wanting to sell our townhouse, but with the market the way it is, we know it will take a while. In order to save some costs, we were hoping to sell our house without a real estate agent. Is it possible to do this? And, how would we get it on the MLS without a realtor?

Sure its possable I have sold 13 homes FSBO and its not a big deal, like all the realtors lead you to think. You can not list a house in MLS with out a Realtor. MLS is a membership for Realtors only. I have access to MLS data base as a appraiser only, but I cant list on MLS.

You can't.

The MLS is cooperatively owned by the realtors in the area, Access to the MLS is the chief service that they sell.

The best you can hope for is some discount agent who will list you on the MLS and do nothing else to market your house and give you a discounted commission for this lack of complete service.

No, you cannot list on mls if you do not use a realtor or are not a realtor urself. I ended up buying my house through an ad on craigslist believe it or not, and no realtor was involved in the sale.

You don't get on multilist without a realtor. That's a site that's only for realtors.

It is possible to sell a house without a realtor, but not through multilist.

Nope! And if you don't how are the buyers going to find your listing? A newspaper ad? Do you know how expensive they are? Do you realize that newspaper ad's typically don't bring buyers or even calls? In today's market with there being fewer buyers, why would you not utilize all avenues to get your home sold? If you have a tooth ache, do you pull it yourself? Hire a professional and if you're smart you'll pay them a higher rate on the list side to really promote your home. Paying extra commission to the buyers agent doesn't work anymore than advertising in newspaper. We don't look for the extra money when searching for homes for our buyers, we're looking at what criteria and amenities they want. DA!

You can do what you want, but believe me your best choice is to list with a Realtor.

Just a heads up, it's illegal for anyone who is not a licensed real estate agent to advise you on this topic.

However, there's an excellent site where you can pose your questions to real estate professionals, ranging from full service agents to the discount brokers you're asking about.

Here's a thread that will discuss the sort of service you have in mind:

You can do a for sale by owner; try buyowner.com and try fsbo.com; craigslist; kijiji.com and many other free advertising websites out there. I don't think you can list it on MLS without a realtor, I do know it does cost to list on MLS.

Hi,

Yes you can. Try posting ads on classified websites and publish them too in local newspapers. Checkout http://realestateguide.financialdealsonline.info for some valuable tips on the matter. Good luck.
