I am currently taking an acting class in school, and we were wondering what plays we could potentially perform. We would not charge admission to the play, and would do an abridged version of it. Also, this play would be considered more of a "learning experience" so we wouldn't really want to pay for the script. Does anyone know some plays that we can do or a website that tells me this information? Thanks so much!

well if you're performing a play, you'll be spending money regardless unless it's a class play, meaning you're not "putting it on" so much as just doing it for fun, your class and such.

But if you're planning to go all out, doing more than one show for ppl to come see and need a big cast, it'll cost money.

1. you'll need scripts (which you'll have to buy, because it's illegal to copy them, and even if you aren't doing a huge production, you'll still need scripts to read from)
2. licensing (if you plan to actually put this on, you'll have to contact the copyright company and ask first permission to put it on, then you'll have to tell them exactly what days you'll be doing it and pay for the rights to perform it on those days)

but the reason i don't have any suggestions is because you dont' give any information, size of cast, humurous or dramatic, one act, full length, etc. is ur teacher asking you guys to research this? because normally a director knows what to look for in their classes and will pick a play that best fits what they have to work with

I can't help you with the last part because I don't know how, but the play "The Wizard of Oz" is a good choice. Don't just do the same old thing in the movie. Remix it up. Have fun editing it.
For example: The original setting is in Kansas, right? Why don't you make the setting be in California or Florida or maybe even in China?
