Go to the Manufactures web site and look for a driver specific to your CD/DVD-RW drive for Windows XP. Installing that should fix your problem. As it sounds like you have a driver for Windows ME installed, instead of one that works with XP.

This usually means you need a driver for XP. Windows ME drivers are not compatible with Windows XP. The best bet is to go to the manufacturer's website (linked below) and look for the latest XP driver.

Good luck!

Try to isolate it by connecting it to secondary IDE, may be there is a conflict between the hard drive and the CD rom RW drive

the reason could desire to be thatyou have become pink x's is via the fact itunes can not come across the documents which you imported off the cd. so which you get pink x's. attempt to re-import the songs back and verify that they are on your song checklist, then pass to Itunes and import the songs from that checklist. i don't think of the CD force is the concern.

get updated drivers from ASUS. uninstall the old drives, install the new ones and test without running any other software.
