It's fine. If you're not a busy person it should last you 4 years, its fine.

The specs you've provided don't make any sense.
589 MHz (not sure what that refers to) and 1.60 Hz processor. I don't think any laptops were actually made that slow (yes, I know it's meant to be 1.60 GHz, but you should have typed that).
The processor clock speed and RAM doesn't really tell much about the computer, you'd also need to know what type of processor it has (different processors do a different amount of work during each clock cycle and it can be a pretty significant difference) along with specs for the other components.

If you'll be running XP it's ok. don't try to do lots of animation in your PowerPoint and don't use any Microsoft Office 2007
