Type: HP Deskjet F380
Errors: The machine does not respond to commands for a long time, eventually pulling in all of the sheets of paper and then jamming. After rebooting the PC, rebooting the printer and fully unplugging from the power mains the problem still occurs and then at intervals it will shoot out several blank pages and then begin to type a few.

Does anybody know the cure to these?

Thanks,

David - DS3011

First turn off the printer and computer. Disconnect the cable that runs between the computer and printer. Find the instructions for the printer to print a test page to make sure the printer works all by itself. This usually entails pressing a combination of buttons while turning the printer back on. If the printer passes this test, then it could be a "stuck" printer command or a driver issue. Reconnect the printer to the computer and print a test sheet from the printer control panel icon. If that works then try a document. If the test page does not work, delete the printer from the computer and re-install the drivers (after getting updated ones from the manufacturer's web site). The last option is that the printer is broken if it does not pass the stand alone test.

HP has good support. I had a problem with my HP4215 after downloading IE7. HP was on top of it with a fix. e-mail HP support. You will get a response within a couple of hours and, at least in my case, they followed up to ensure the printer was working all right. Before you e-mail, get out your order number, customer number, SN of printer, to identify yourself as a valid owner.

It honestly sounds like you need to ensure you have the latest correct driver for your printer. Since it was not stated, I'm assuming you are using XP. I'm including a link to the Software & Driver download page for your all-in-one.

Good luck!
