I just stumbled upon this program called Atheros Client Utility, and went into advanced mode and looked at my signal strength. It is listed at -41 dBm, and the current noise level level at -95dBm. I'm assuming this is bad, because the levels are negative. Is there any way to strengthen these signals?

Don't assume that at all !

I was in electronics for nearly 40 years and have a lot of experience in witnessing testing of high end military electronics.

My experiences are that you will see both + and - reading in regards to dBm which is decibels/milliwatt.

+/- dBm is a measure of the signal in respect to it's position in the sine wave I believe. Which basically means that if the signal is measured in the first 180 degrees of the wave it will register as + and if in the second 180 degrees it will register as -.

dBm is a measure of signal power/strength and because it is depicted as + or - has nothing to do with its being weaker or stronger based simply on the +/- symbol.

Obviously though, the higher the number, whether + or -, indicates a stronger signal.

I hope this helps.

Typical range (−60 to −80 dBm) of Wireless signal over a network

So you're -40dBm is a strong wireless signal.

The bigger the gap between the noise level and the signal level the better.
