The 'evidence' is the missing child. The 'confession' was that the parents admit to abandoning the children so they could party.
Case closed.

Yes and the police have told a pack of lies to trick the McCanns into a confession, these lies are believed by the Yahoo Answers hate brigade.
This will sound odd to the Yahoo haters but:
There is NO evidence against the McCanns none at all

Its possible. Sloppy work from the start and the pressure is on to get a result from this case. They look bad already because of the sloppy forensics at the start of the case - one individual was seen checking for fingerprints without protective clothing or a hair net. I wish the British would step in and take over. Everyone has their own opinion with this case but hopefully people will remember to stick to the facts and not jumpt to conclusions. There is still hope Maddie will be found.

No way. That would be an insult to the police really. If they were just hoping for a confession as someone (was it a member of their family by any chance?) suggested, then that says they are prepared to let the case close without any more effort to find Maddie. And the British police too?????

The keystone cops in Portugal have messed up from the start. The scene of crime is now being rented out, the car is still being used - the McCann's are now the only available option left to the police. I hope our bobbies have taken over because at least you know they can be bothered to do something, especially with the media attention.

they are clutching at straws, isn't it funny how the media's 'source' informs us of what questions are being asked and how the parents have been made suspects but this 'source' cannot confirm that maddie's blood was found in the hire car !!, that's because it wasn't. they still have no concrete evidence and are beginning to look very foolish, this is a last ditch attempt to solve the case. i think we will see the case wind down if no confession or body is found soon.

I think it's odd that they offered her a deal. They apparently said, "If you confess now you will only serve a year."
If they were confident of a conviction they would offer no such bargain.
I can't help but wonder if the Portugese police aren't trying to blame them to protect the Portugese tourism industry.

I reccon the police have suspected them for a while and now they have the evidence they need, we would have all had a right barney here if they had took them in like this right at the start!

I think that in all cases the police hope for a confession, less paper work.
But they know those two will be two hard nuts to crack
