I got a new computer and installed vista which I also previously installed on another computer. How do I move the registration from the old computer to the new one.

Try inputting the key on the new computer, if this does not work, it will likely ask you to call a number to varify that you own an legitimate copy of the vista. If you explain on the phone that you have upgraded your computer, then they should issue you a new key - I know this works with windows xp but im not sure about vista yet.

If you bought a full retail version of Vista you should have no probelms .. enter the existing key & when it fails to register you will get a phone number to contact MS.

NB. After registering the new PC, you must either remove Vista from the old PC or you must NEVER EVER allow that PC to go 'on-line' again (otherwise MS will see you have 2 PC's with that same key and they might well terminate both machines).

If you have an 'OEM' version of Vista (eg Dell or HP etc.), you may well have some trouble .. (look very carefully at your Vista O/S media - does it say "For use on a (Dell or HP or whatever) machine only" ?? ... so if they ask, DON'T tell them you have purchased a new PC (if you do, they will say 'you need to buy the full retail version') .. instead explain that your local PC shop "repaired" your (Dell or whatever) PC and told you to re-install to the new hard disk - if they ask what else has been changed / who made the PC motherboard, say you have no idea, you know nothing about hardware, all they did was fix it / it says Dell (or whatever) on the front of the box.

Strictly you cannot. Your licence covers one computer and is not transferable. You are allowed to upgrade your old computer so perhaps you can construct a hybrid from your old and new computers that would qualify as an upgrade?

You may find that Internet activation is refused, in which case you will need to activate by phone and explain that you have upgraded the old computer. If the old one is still running Vista, don't let it on-line.

U can't microsoft won't allow it, U need to buy a new copy.

IF you try to install on 2, they can lock off the system on BOTH of them as soon as they go online. U agree to let them when you agree to the terms of use when you installed
