I am packing for the hospital and starting to question every little thing....

1. I washed my daughter's clothes with dye-free, scent-free detergent. Is one washing enough? Or should they really be washed twice before she wears them?

2. Did anyone ever bring newborn size outfits to the hospital and then find out they didn't fit? I guess I should bring the next size up, too, just to be on the safe side?!

3. I just washed her Nuk orthodontic pacifiers (silicone) and now I see bubbles stuck inside the nipples! The nipples don't come off, for obvious reasons, so how do I get the suds out?!

4. Was there anything you didn't think to bring to the hospital that woud've been nice to have?

5. Was there anything you brought that you really didn't need?

Thanks for your input!

Well congratulations and may God bless you. 1. One washing is enough. 2. Newborn outfits are sometimes too big so a bigger one probably won't be needed. 3. Try boiling the pacifier instead of using soap. 4 & 5. You're over thinking this. You're generally only in the hospital a day or two unless it is a C-Section. So if there is anything you find you really need someone can bring it to you. Just relax and enjoy the miracle you are about to experience. Birth is an incredible gift that God has blessed women with. When you give birth it is the most incredible natural high you will ever experience. When it is over you are so in love that all else will disappear. So good luck to you and your new child.

First of all, calm down this is not the only place that you will bring too much or forget something. i think that one wash is fine, i know moms that didn't even wash the clothes once. As for the size, the odds are your baby will be of normal size, meaning that most newborns are even too small for that size. with my two i would actually bring preemie size! maybe you were a little hard on the pacifiers, but it does happen, soak them for a while in just water and see if that helps. i took way to many things that i didn't use books, music, who can do things like that when you are in tremendous pain. A lot of things needed were provided by the hospital. Good Luck!:)

oh, don't forget your pads, the hospital provides horrible ones for heavy heavy flow.

First of all, RELAX!
1. Some babies are more sensitive than others, however, one washing is sufficient.
2. First babies tend to be smaller- but not always. Unless you have a 10 pounder, a 0-3 month/newborn outfit will be fine. My 3rd baby was born weighing 9lbs 3ozs, and still fit into a 0-3 just fine.
3. To get the suds out, squeeze the nipple and hold it under water- squeeze and release. Do it several times and the suds will come out. You can also boil the nipples if you're still concerned. But truly, it's not that big of a deal. A few bubbles won't make your baby sick. (Just wait till he/she gets a bit older, you won't believe the things they put in their mouth : )
4. Really, the only thing you probably don't want to forget, is something to tie your hair back with, and chapstick/lipgloss. And if you're planning to nurse, buy a box of Lansinoh nursing pads- they are by far the best nursing pads on the market. (Trust me, I've tried them all, and none of the others even come close) The hospital's going to have everything else you need for baby- oh, and bring your own wipes- the hospital's now are using just plain, dry towlettes that you wet before wiping baby's bottom. They don't work very well at all with the meconium (your baby's first 2-3 days of bowel movements) it's going to look like tar, and have the same stickiness for that matter. So, take along your wipes of choice (I like Pamper's wipes, and Huggies diapers) You may also want to take along some candy- like jolly rancher's- they're good to keep your mouth wet, and the nurses usually don't mind (Now-a-days, once you go in to the hospital, they won't let you eat until after baby's born- in case you have to have a C-section, they want your stomach to be empty, so as not to interfere with any of the medications they give you. So, whatever you do, eat a big meal before you go in- 'cause they won't feed you till after!)
5. No matter what you pack, you probably won't use everything you take. Just take what you feel you need or want. As far as Mommy items, they'll supply you with maxi-pads, and other feminine items. Just be sure to take a toothbrush, shampoo, and any other items you would typically take on an over-nighter.
And last, try not to worry, Mommy-to-be. Everything will be fine. If you forget something, your hubby/boyfriend can always bring it to you. Just try to relax as much as possible. And rub your big tummy, 'cause you'll miss it when it's gone. Cherish the last few hours of your pregnancy, and enjoy every minute of your new baby! They grow up fast. Good luck with your new baby. And don't forget the camera! You can never get the photo-op back! And make sure you've got extra batteries! Take care!

1. One washing is fine.
2. Newborn outfits fit for the first few weeks- 0-3 months are fine.
3. Are the suds, suds, or water??? Sometimes water stays inside. Try boiling them again and see if that helps.
4 and 5. . I brought too much with me the first time- and again the second. I brought along a blow dryer- and never did my hair. I brought books, and never had time to read. Definately bring a cell phone if you have one. Bring maternity clothes to go home in- you will still look like you are 6 months pregnant. Bring pens and paper. You may have questions and need to write them down.

You don't even need to bring diapers for baby or pads for you- they will provide them.

If you are planning to breast feed- bring along a nursing bra.

But- RELAX= anything you need is really provided by the hospital and the same for the baby.

Congrats to you sweetie- and good luck! I hope you are holding your little one soon!

Most newborn sizes will actually be too big for your newborn, so I would definately not take a bigger size. If anything, you might want to consider buying a preemie size to bring her home in. My boys were 8 pounds and 8 pounds, 6 ounces and the newborn outfits were huge on them. My daughter was a preemie, and the preemie outfit was still too big. One washing should be just fine.

Bring socks to keep you feet warm. Your own pillow is nice to have too. Hard candies that you can eat.

I overpacked every time. They will have a lot of what you need at the hosptial. Plus if you do forget anything, I am sure there will be someone who can get it for you if the hospital does not have it.

Best of luck to you!!

I brought the carseat, blanket, binki, clothes, diappers, and yes I brought to much of everything because I did not know what size would fit or if I should bring this or that. My son was 8pounds 11oz and he fit into newborn or 0-3 so you should be fine. All first time mom's worry and it is normal. Everything will be fine. Just make sure you don't forget the carseat. lol Also about the binki I have that prob also. And I just leave them in there because I don't know how to wet the moisture from the inside out. Good Luck and Congrats.

1- washing once is fine!

2- newborn outfits will fit just fine, and will probably be pretty big even on a newborn!

3- i used to give my son nuks and when this happened, i boiled them and then let them sit on the window seal and sun dry.

4- i would have brought more skid proof socks/slippers especially if i would have known i was getting a csection. they want you to get up and walk around the halls the morning after. i only brought one pair and when i got up the first morning, blood ran down my leg and ruined them! so def. bring a few. also- bring chapstick, the breathing excersises during labor dry out your lips. you may want to bring regular pads because by the second day, i was tired of wearing the "diaper" pads they give you.

5- dont bring diapers or wipes because they provide them!

When i had my son i think i brought just about everything in his closet. I was just so excited i didnt know what to do, then when he came out he didnt fit nothing everything was hanging off of him ( including newborn size). Please dont be like me because when it was time to leave i needed so much help getting everything down because you are going to get so many papers and different things from the hospital that it is going to take up space. So i came out with more than i came in with including a baby. The hospital actually has everything you need you might just need 2 outfits. They even have pacifiers i dont know what hospital you at but i recived a nuk pacifier. So just keep this in mind.

Mommy, You're going over the top. #1. Yes, one washing to remove the sizing from new clothing is plenty. #2. Newborns don't need "outfits" to come home in. A simple (wrapping)t-shirt, the diaper and a front-closing, sack-type garment that snaps to enclose the baby's feet are all you will need. Wrap your precious cargo in a receiving blanket and a pretty, lightweight blanket for the trip home. And a very lightweight cap. #3. Wrap your finger in a clean, lint-free cloth. Dip your wrapped finger into plain white vinegar and run your covered finger around the inside of the nipple. Then rinse with water and allow the pacifier to air dry. #4 and #5. You will need very little. Something clean, fresh and unconfining for yourself to wear home, comb or brush, a tube of mascara and a lipstick.

Congratulations!

Newborn outfits will actually fit a little bit big. Just bring your shampoo/conditioner, pajamas and robe, sweatpants, books to read, and crossword puzzle books. I took tons of stuff, only to find out that most of the stuff you'll need, they already have there. You'll have a TON of stuff to fit in your car afterwards, so pack lightly. I always wear my going home outfit to the hospital. I pretty much just wear it in the car, and in the waiting room, but I also have a c-section every time, so I know what time and day my baby will be born.
