Usually, if you don't have a flushing machine like they do in the repair shops, you have to remove the transmission pan to drain the fluid because most transmissions don't have a drain plug like the engine oil drain plug. It's not an easy job and very messy, so take it to a shop. Ask them if your transmission filter needs cleaning or replacement because you can only change the filter by removing the drain pan which they don't do when they just flush the fluid with a machine. The transmission fluid can be topped off with the fluid specified in your car owner's manual if you have a standard dip stick tube. Purchase a very narrow necked funnel designed for transmission tubes at an auto store and only add a half quart at a time to make sure you don't over fill the transmission. Check the proper dipstick measuring procedure. Some non-dipstick equipped transmissions require you to remove an oil fill plug on the side of the transmission to check and refill it through a fill port on the top of the transmission.

You put fluid in through the dipstick. If yer gonna change it yerself, get a big pan, like a cat litter pan to drain the fluid in. Loosen all the bolts on yer pan, and then start at a corner and take them out slowly. When you see the old fluid starting to drain from the corner take out the rest of the bolts and lean it that way. It's not a messy job if you just take yer time. Clean yer pan and yer transmission good at where the gasket goes. Whipe out yer pan with a rag, put grease around the edge of the pan and stick the gasket to it, lining up the bolt holes. Stick it back on and snug all the bolts before tightening any of them. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN! you'll "spring" yer pan and then spring a leak..lol...good luck!

You'll have to open the hood. Then locate the dip stick tube for the transmission.
