I have noticed A LOT of questions regarding bare feet on Y/A, and I know many of you who are inclined to answer these questions are already SBL members - Kudos to you, fellow members, for spreading the word. I just thought I'd send an open invitation! :-)

If you are interested, here is a url you can visit for membership info.:

We are a group of people from around the world who educate about the benefits of unshod life, and debunk the myths about "illegal barefoot driving," "By order of the Health Dept., no bare feet," etc.
It is a great organisation that provides a forum for all who would live as much of a barefoot life as possible. Barefoot is a healthy and responsible lifestyle choice, and I REALLY encourage all who love going barefoot as often as possible to join! :-)
Best answer will be given to the person who provides the most interesting story of a barefoot experience.

Wow "pride", I guess you are proud of A)not answering the question; B) putting people down; C) hiding your q&a's...
Then again, you may mean "freak" in a friendly, jovial way, but how can I tell with your one word response, you freako! :-)
....lol.....Peace to you, whatever you might think of my and hundreds of thousands of others' love of simply walking barefoot!

Sands, I myself am a highly educated individual, with a B.A. in philosophy and political science, and an M.A. in English Literature. I am an alumnus of the University of Houston Law Center as well. My brother is a family practice doctor who was chief resident not that long ago at UTMB, where I myself will likely be attending soon for a BSN and an MSN. Apparently, you haven't read the site's information about the health benefits of barefooting. I have walked discalced for well over a decade, and have VERY healthy feet - good musculature, etc. I never get any fungi, because (as you should know), bare feet are nor conducive to multiplication of that organism, as it thrives in damp, enclosed areas......Nor have I injured myself. Really, look further into the site - you will find sources/resources that elucidate the health benefits. I do not mean to be condescending, but I absolutely know what I am talking about here! :-) It's your choice if you don't want to adopt the lifestyle, but PLEASE

I have no doubt you are an intelligent indiviual, Sands, but if you accuse me of not having an open mind because I challenge you, I think you are a bit, no offence, misguided. As J.S. Mill said in so many words, debate is good, so that we do not become sedimented in our beliefs/practices without challenging ourselves and allowing ourselves to grow via healthy discourse. Professor Austin, the linguist/philosopher, would probably say here that we've encounter'd an interminable argument, where both parties are true believers. My apologies if I offended you. I respect medical professionals and Med students, obviously, since I am eventually going to become a nurse practitioner myself......
Cheers - just don't think I'm a moron for going barefoot - I think I know what I am doing as a MENSA member and a future health professional who may even become a professor of nursing.
Again, no hard feelings - have a good one, eh?

Sands, I for one AM NOT highly offended by people questioning my practices, beliefs, motivations, etc. As I said before, I subscribe to a form of Mill's utilitarianism, and this includes the value of informed debate. So far, you have not debated with facts, but simply used a flimsy appeal to authority (your own I may add, which is rather arrogant in my humble opinion). In other words, your IPSE DIXIT is what offends, not your challenge. That is all I shall say, for you seem WAY too oversensitive to handle a real debate. You'd probably accuse me of being impolite again.
I shall not refer to my credentials in support of my observations here, even though my academic credentials are nothing to be laughed at. You should try to get rid of that annoying habit, madam.

Sands is WAY off. I go barefoot nearly all the time as well. If you are a good med. student, Sands, you should always have an open mind AND be able to conduct GOOD research. Rather than jump out with a visceral reaction, you should be able to form a well, thought out response, which you clearly didn't. Here are some links! :

OK, my barefoot story goes like this. I was flying Southwest on the Summer Solstice, and an attendant told me I had to have shoes on to board. I told him that I had to be totally shoe free for this Wiccan holiday. It worked....lol.....

I'm a member already but in response to Sands, I've been in the unfortunate position to meet about two dozen different doctors in the past couple years, not to mention a load of assistants, nurses, etc, not for me but accompanying & visiting my mom, and NONE have had a problem with my bare feet.

Generally, most people here in Europe believe going barefoot is healthy rather than dangerous, but even in the US, other barefooters from the SBL report very few negative comments at their doctors' offices, and plenty of positives.

In my own experience, I'm much more healthy; I used to be sickly from early fall until late spring, coughing and sneezing no matter what I tried. These past ten years I've called in sick once (for two days) and even a minor cough is rare.

Koreg and all the other Barefooters, obviously you guys get highly offended by people who dare to challenge your barefoot practices in any way. The put downs at my expense are very unappealing( and in some ways amusing) to say the least. I fully stand by my fact based opinion, which I know would be rejected even if I provided physical proof that I am right. This is not a forum for Yes Men and Women, unfortunately. As such, if you all are looking for enthusiastic Barefooter recruits, you are probably looking in the wrong place. Considering that the scant few responders in favor of this lifestyle are already in it, I think that you can all draw your own conclusions re: its mass appeal. Clearly your barely polite defense of it (especially Sheriam and Red Femme's)has attracted no one and quite possibly turned many off. Have a good one.
