Native Americans and Indians are not the same thing.
Native Americans are believed to have crossed from Asia to North America over what is now the Bering Strait (between Asia and Alaska). Some may have been from what is now India but it is not accurate to call them "Indians."
They were from many places in Asia, particularly Siberia, Mongolia, and China and India as well.
They lived in many major tribes (nations, such as the Sioux, the Illinois, Cheyenne) throughout North America - particularly in the area that is now the United States, and not nearly as many in Canada - probably because of the cold climate. They thrived until around the 1600's.
The Europeans spread west - beginning in the 1600's and 1700's and to a great extent in the 1800's of course.
France and England settled in the Northern part of the continenet in what is now Canada. The English also settled the East Coast of N. America and establshed colonies which became the first 13 U.S. colonies in 1776. They had been under British rule before that.
The Americans had "manifest destiny" and moved west at the expense of the Native Americans. They had superior weapons and technonlogy and overtook the natives with minimal losses, leaving the natives without a homeland and without support.
Now - you find out (it is easy to do) what European countries came first and when to create colonies in The U.S. and Canada.

You are going to get an ear full with this question.
In short the word Indians came from the mistake that Columbus thought he had sailed west from Europe and reached INDIA.
Native Americans came from Asia several thousand years ago. Mostly over a land bridge between Alaska and Russia that is now under water.
They lived lives as most farmers and hunters do for thousands of years. The population was large but America is a big place so there was lots of room.
The Americans in South America were into building with stone which didn't seem to interest those in North America. When the Europeans came over they brought with them viruses that the locals could not handle and tens of thousands died. The Europeans were not the nicest of people and like typical militarizes from any place caused a general havoc to the existing way of life. Having superior weapons they killed and dominated and took what they wanted.
As the area around the east coast of the USA got full, The New people pushed west destroying and sending military to kill any who opposed them. The slaughters the American military perpetrated on the Native Americans are disgusting. Not many Native Americans survived the Genocide.
The reputation for lying by the American Government was astounding. I am sure you will hear many more detailed horror stories as you read your other answers.
SOLDER BLUE is a video about the atrocities.

It is my understanding that most Native American peoples prefer to be called BEST by their tribal names (Lakota, Souix, etc.) If you do not know that, they prefer to be called Indians rather than Native Americans.
What happened before the Europeans? It wasn't some sort of golden age of peacefulness. The Indians lived, loved, hated, cried, laughed and fought with each other just like all people of the world. They lived in harmony with their surroundings, and usually did not wipe each other out wholesale - because over centuries of living on the continent, they were used to each other's diseases and all had similar technilogical development.
The Hopewell Indians had a wonderful society in the Mississippi valley with an economy based around pokeweed until circa 1300. Then they all died out. No one is sure why, but some thing it was because corn replaced poke as the major crop and a corn blight hit around that time. No hard evidence, just conjecture. But, after a time, other native cultures continued to grow and thrive.
Some tales suggest (with some evidence to back it up) that the Vikings made their way to the new world around the year 1000 or so. There is one compelling tale of vikings meeting with native peoples - sharing food and drink, then the natives coming back to attack them the next day. Theiry is, the vikings gave them milk. The Indians, not being milk drinkers, suffered the pains of lactose intolerance and thought themselves poisoned.
The Spanish came first (historically), and then other European nations - Europe - being a war-like people (like all people all ove rhte world) sought to conquor these people who had less technology. Sad fact, the Europeans brought over new dieases that the Indians had never faced before. With no immunity, they succumbed in great numbers. The rest is a tale of woe. Of atrocity commited on both sides, and eventually the near total destruction of the Indians. YOu can read all about it from their perspective in a book called "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee"

I'll do my best to answer most of your questions, but I would like to suggest that you use other resources such as your history textbook and history websites, to learn.
1, Yes, Native Americans used to be called Indians. But, those of us who are more educated do not call them Indians now because we know that the term Indian refers to people who come from the country of India. Christopher Columbus thought he had sailed all of the way around the world and made it to India, so he called Native Americans....Indians.
2. Nothing happened to the N. Americans before Europeans arrive in North America except that they lived. They respected nature and used it to live. They had their own societies and cultural groups which thrived in many ways until the arrival of the Europeans. After the Europeans arrived they were pushed off of the lands they had lived in for hundreds of years and many were killed in the name of European expansion.
3. As far as I know, the Spanish arrived in North America first.

It is interesting to me that in most parts of the country, the original inhabitants are referred to as native Americans because it is politically correct. Yet, in the southwest, they refer to themselves as Indians, politians refer to them as Indians, and any advertising to promote anything to do with them call them Indians.
They lived off of the earth in many ways. They has shelter and an ample supply of food and land before the Europeans arrived. And then, in the name of civilization and progress, their land was destroyed and their animals for food disappeared. White men shared diseases with them as well.
The Spanish came through Florida, California, and Texas. The British came to New England and the Middle States.
