The simple truth is, in our hasty, neon-lit society there are very few places which would suit a vampire. I.e. quiet, gloomy and with deep crypts full or sarcophagus...ses. (sarcophagi?) Most of these places are, you guess it, churches.

So, to gain unlimited access to said places, most vampires today work as Catholic priests. And for those, whether the vampires like it or not, a cross of some sort is required dress code. Now you know crosses hurt vampires. Which is why there is an easy way to find out whather your local priest is a vampire. Just check whether he weats a kevlar collar under his cross.

I think you're getting a false impression from one famous movie image.

The "Halloween costume" versions of Dracula most often include a sash of sorts with a metal emblem hanging around the character's neck. The emblem is cross-shaped, but looks more like criss-crossing hourglass shapes.

This kind of cross has nothing to go with Christianity, but is an old Prussian/germanic symbol. Before that it was used by certain European Knights.

West Coast Choppers uses a similar design in their logo.

crosses on the neck, cross tatoos, tongue/brow/nostril/upper ear/mohawks/clt-pns-areola.nip pierce/black clothes, blacklined brows-upper/lower eyelids, very short wispy black lacy skirts with black stilletoes and net stockings...

It's all Gothic and Vampires started the trend and pioneered the style since the Middle Ages.

But since Vampires live forever, it only seems like a day in the life for them. Some of them may have forgotten to change their clothes or their costume jewelry amidst their harried modern schedule filled with sleeping and Hollywood film shoots, and visiting the families in Transylvania and Transexual Transylvania on weekends, to boot.

I don't know how they keep going.
