I am not an expert on macs
You need to ask what are wireless card or usb adapter that will install ( have the install device drivers for the mac os you have )
If the laptop is wireless once you have your mac with a wireless network adapter installed you should be off of to the races
The modem is a different device
It was was what used to get older slow internet over a phone line ( tied up phone line and was slow)
If you are very desperate and can run a cable an ethernet cable can be run from the router ( wireless box) to your mac
Just ask what wireless cards / wireless network adapter / wireless usb network adapter work with your mac operating system ( system 9 or 10 most likely)

Don't know what an emac is, but if it has a USB port you can get an wireless adapter for less than $20.00
