Well, it's simply a fact that people feel they have a "right" to live in a risk-free society. We have gone from understanding that the bumps and bruises of life are how we grow, to an understanding that the bumps and bruises of life are how we grow rich.

While there certainly are many frivolous lawsuits, you should find out the facts about the woman who sued McDonald's before you start quoting it as an example.
The manager of that McDonald's store intentionally overode the temperature control on the coffee maker to accommodate one client who was buying a lot of coffee and driving to a distant construction site with it. Several customers were burned on their lips by the too-hot coffee and repeated complaints were made to the store that the coffee was too hot. This went on for a long time. The woman who sued, received 2nd degree burns after the heat from the coffee melted the glue holding her cup together and the coffee spilled in her lap.
The large judgment came mainly because the McDonald attorneys were very arrogant and abusive towards the plaintiff in court and the jury got really angry at them. The excessive judgment was subsequently lowered at least twice on appeal.

Yup, it sure is! Like the criminal that broke through the roof of a store and sued the owner when he got hurt and the jury actually awarded him money. Or the lady who tripped over her own two year old and sued the store and got money. I cannot believe these juries are all composed of morons(although I know the plaintiff's lawyers do their best in voir dire), so the only thing I can think is that it's a sympathy vote for people who, with apparently the rest of the population feel that if you can't win the lottery you should sue somebody and make them give you the money.
The cause? Where all things like this start, in the family. When kids are raised by people who don't believe in personal responsibility, where else will they end up?

well it starts with lawyers, lawyers want to win at all costs, so when they have a defendant in a criminal case they will do all they can (even if the thug is truly a thug) to get him or her off, they had a bad childhood, they were coericed, they were picked on and instead of leaving the scene lashed out or whatever.
you get the point, lawsuits are just a result of all the getting people off for various crimes under the pretext it wasn't the criminals fault. they start looking at enviromental conditions for everything and blame victims rather than the criminal. They get these juries to feel sorry for the criminal because he was hungry and got hurt trying to rob a bank or house or whatever. And so they feel sorry for him, and don't want to punish him to hard or they want to blame someone else so this criminal is shown mercy (a false mercy by the way).
I guess they figure what if that was me trying to get some money because they were starving, but the reality is the criminal wasn't stealing due to hunger, just greed. They cloud the issues in court and people are given a false impression.
and this all spills over in the lawsuit department for trivial things.

Man I wish there were more people like you in America. The only language people speak is freakin money. I don't like something you say or do...I'm going to sue you. I screw something up...I point the finger elsewhere. The court system is a joke and people do whatever the hell they want. We need a serious change in the country or it's going to get even more out of control. Just thank the people at the ACLU and other organizations that are so gracious as to help people to corrupt our country in the name of civil liberties. People need to own up to their screw ups and be nailed to the cross if they blame it on someone else....enough said.

amen brother.... I think the problem is that it isn't being taught..... from home or school..... it starts so young... "my pants are torn in the knee cuz Jimmy pushed me down".... mommy cuddles the kid, and a new "pass it off on someone else" is born.....it's not pointed out to the kid that if he'd have learned from the last time, and not been playing with Jimmy, that he wouldn't have been there to be pushed!.... this is where I think we learn that WE are responsible for our actions..... and then, in school... the worst thing that EVER happened there was the idea to not fail a kid for not learning something... no kid left behind.... we havent' even BEGUN to see the results of THAT yet.... again, the kid is coddled, not allowed to fail, not taught that it's his own danged fault for not learning how to play nice that gets him not picked for the team, for example.... a person HAS to fail to learn how NOT to fail!!!....
of course, I have to say that the poor teachers are so strapped in, with what they can and cannot teach... my, my....if any of MY teachers had been so repressed, I may never have learned a danged thing....
we gotta get'em YOUNG and start there.... another problem is day care and the lessons NOT taught there, but I'll not get into that one......

The lawyers get rich. I agree with you but I guess it's easier to point the figure and make a quick buck it the process.
It's getting worse and worse.
There's woman who is suing the company that trained a blind man's seeing eye dog because the dog walked into her.
This is what our justice system is coming too.
Ron Paul will fix it all.
