I found a strange shrub in my garden today. The leaves look like ivy, but are shinier and a lighter green, and it has small white blossoms and dark purple berries that look frightfully much like belladonna.
What is it?

You don't give me much information to go on so this answer is based on what you do say. To me it sounds like a kind of viburnum and they would have purple berries about now. These shrubs grow across the US and are indigenous to many states. Belladonna does not grow as a shrub as far as i know, it is an annual. Here is a site that has pictures of a viburnum that has maple or ivy type leaves. http://www.ct-botanical-society.org/galleries/viburnumacer.html

If you wouldn't mind telling us where you are, what zone you are in, and even provide a more detailed description we might be able to help you. A nice clear picture would be helpful as well. A shrub that looks like Ivy? What kind of ivy? It's just amazing how many plants produce white flowers and purple berries. Also, belladonna has purple flowers.
