OUi, c`est un pays ;)
Really, Holland is the two provinces (Noord Holland & Zuid Holland) together.
This used to be a country.
Then more provinces joined, and it became Les Pays Bas , or The Netherlands - or officially Het Koningkrijk der Nederlanden.
For ease of use, most foreigners refer to The Netherlands as Holland, and almost everyone knows what you mean.
HOWEVER - it seems the USA has at least 2 towns also called Holland, one in Michigan, and one in Texas.
There is also a town called Nederland.

holland was a state in the 1500-1700 netherlands. Nowadays (post 1804) it is two provinces, North-Holland and South-Holland. The americans use the term holland synonimous with the netherlands. but this is incorrect

Hi, a native here:
Holland is a region and in fact two provinces (North-Holland and South-Holland) in the country named The Netherlands.
Amsterdam (capital of The Netherlands) is situated in the province North-Holland.
The Hague (seat of our government) is situated in the province South-Holland.
The Netherlands - including Holland - is a west European country, bordering Germany (east border), Belgium & Luxembourg (south border) and the North Sea.
Cheers!

It is a part of the Netherlands, just like England being a part of the United Kingdom.
People usually call it Holland instead of the Netherlands, Just like England. No one calls it the United Kingdom.

Can't believe so many people just copy and paste the same bit from Wikipedia!! (as if Wiki can be trusted....)
Holland is a region, not a country.
It's in The Netherlands, in Europe (next to Germany)
