Indoor air pollution is due to houses being built extra tight. You can relieve the problem by airing out your house from time to time by opening several windows and using a fan to blow out the stale air. As for germs.........when the windows are open go around a sanitize all the countertops and clean the floors, wash light switches and door handles. You've just reached all the major "germ" locations plus the air flow will blow out residual cleaner chemicals in the air.

If you don't want to open the windows, get a HEPA air cleaning system.

You have many options such as a simple disposable allergy filter for your furnace. There are a lot of air cleaners and purifiers on the market but I would stay away from most of them. There are health risks associated with them.

I don't know if they sell it in America, but I live in England and they have an air freshener called Oust. It not only eliminates odors, but also helps to make the air smell fresh.
