When you practice your religion you are also spiritual. But you can be spiritual without being religious. Spiritual means going withinside yourself for peace and serenity. this peace and serenity can also be a faith in a god, gods or like in A merely just a higher power.

Relying on your spiritual strength rather than physical strength.

Religion has been known to destroy peoples faith in Christ and the church. A perfect example of religious could be found in the new testament gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. When Christ came to the synagogue as was his custom. There was a man with a withered hand. When Jesus went to heal him the pharisees and saduccess got upset at Him because he was healing a man on the Sabbath. Now here is the question, "What better day than on the day committed to worshipping God should be used for healing? That mentality of certain things happening at certain times and places is considered religious. Here is a simplier answer. When you are sharing with someone your most intimate details and they listen intently and then say to you, "God is able". Now what is that suppose to mean? If I am hurting and know that you are a child of God, why do I need you to tell me that God is able. I need some comfort, some answers, a shoulder to cry on, words of encouragement. What good would it be for me to talk to you about a problem and you can't console me? Relgious. Now to the spiritual part. A spiritual person in the scenarios above would listen intently and while hearing what you are saying, would with their spirit also listen to what God is saying, through the Holy Spirit (spiritual discernment) and tell you what they believe God is saying to them in that specific situation. Also, spiritual people have chosen a relationship with God vs. a relationship with rules, doctrine and traditions. I would suggest you stay away from relgious answers on this question, because you have asked and very important and awesome question that deserves more than trite answers. Hope I was able to help you, got to run.

Religious refers to following the structure of an organized religion. Whereas spiritual encompasses the mystery of acknowledging the presence of a higher being and/or spiritual realm without the constructs of organized religion.

To be "religious" is to do something with habitual practice. For instance, "He watches the sports channel religiously." There can be very little meaning, outside of the act of being habitual. This is often referred to as "going through the motions."

To be "spiritual" means having an inclination of sensitivity to things of a spiritual nature. For a Christian to be "spiritual" but not "religious" would mean that we are not trying to make God happy by jumping through hoops of performance that the religious church is holding up for us...but at the same time we have a sensitivity to what God's desire is. A spiritual Christian has a recognition of God's spiritual presence, and the reality of His existence. The value is placed upon His reality, and not upon the organizations of men.

Doesn't follow the "idea" of a set religeon, such as Christianity, Judaism, Islam. etc.

But yet, has a sense of a higher power connecting with the soul.

for example, Buddhism isn't like any other religeon because its more of a Spiritual enlightenment religeon, other than based on belief.

Some people call it a way of life rather than a "religeon"

Those who know religeons know what i mean.

Thanks and Bye.

Most People who are "Spiritual," are Born-again Christians. They do not like to be called "Religious", Because Most Religions are "Man-made".....and will not get You to Heaven. ONLY SALVATION IN JESUS CAN DO THAT. He Is The Way, The Truth, The Life. (smile) + + +

I think it means that they don't follow any dogma (or rules) set out by religious texts or 'churches'. It also means that they have a 'faith' that transcends one set belief...ie they might not believe that Jesus was actually the son of god, but they might acknowledge his existence and the fact that he was a great teacher, and they might try to follow the basic precepts for life set out by the Buddha...it's really about accepting other people's opinions as being as valid as your own, not bowing to any dogma and searching, searching, searching...

It means that person does not need a leader telling them what their relationship with God means. It also means that person doesn't need their beliefs validated by being part of a group.

It's not about religion, those are just titles for different factions. It's all about Relationship with the Creator of the Universe. In order to have that relationship, we need His Spirit (with the evidence of speaking in tongues). If we don't have this, then we are Dead Men Walking.
