Two and a half years ago I blindly bought my first car, a '96 Chrysler Sebring. Its a cute car and my uncle who is a mechanic said to buy it....bad idea. After a long struggle of the car having problems repeatedly it finally died for good almost 2 weeks ago. I was given a loan of 5000 dollars by a family member and am trying my hardest to be really smart this time around. I plan on buying something around 13,000. I want something super reliable, something that requires little maitenance. I live in a large city that requires alot of driving though I don't often drive very long distances. I have been considering a Honda Civic, Toyota Yaris and the Volkswagen New Beetle. At this point I want the New Beetle the most but am unsure about its reliability. I am a college student who waitresses and I don't want a huge car payment for the rest of my life. Also something that isn't going to have insurance rates that go through the roof. Thanks

I don't think the brand is a big deal, what you could do is talk to your insurance company and ask them what has the lowest insurance rates, but also fewest number of accidents. Ask for statistics.

Look for Lease Returns, they typically have warranty left on them, and you know a lease has been taken care of. Unlike a rental car like from Hertz.

You been burned once, the question is will you take the time to study the buying process not to get burned twice. many consumers cant find the time end up with a lemon and blame their mistakes on the seller.

Your selection of vehicles are good, go to my website http://www.usedcartips.org/ and study the steps, I don't expect you to become an expert over night, but pick up a few pointers will get you valid value for your hard earned bucks.

Insurance cost will also come into play as to what your choice of vehicle may be, click on the insurance banner , its a free quote with no strings attached.

You can compare cars side by side at the site below. I'm betting any of those cars would do you well. Good choices!

your on the right track...now look for some other help...like someone who works for VW who can get you APlan or X plan...At ford we can give our friends xyz plan papers that save 28 percent of accessories. so a car costing 18,000 would then cost about 13,000 or so....good luck finding a VW workier.

Get either the Toyota Yaris or the Civic. Forget about the beetle. The Yaris and Civic is bigger than the Beetle and it has more room. Plus, Toyotas and Hondas are extremely reliable (more reliable than the VWs)
