Ok. This is the fourth or fifth time I have been invited to a "diaper party". So a woman has a baby shower; then a couple of weeks later I get an invite for (in my opinion a second baby shower) this diaper party, where you are supposed to bring a package of unwrapped diapers for the new baby.

I find this to be really tacky. Is this a new thing, is it regional? I'm from Michigan, and I'd like to know if you find this tacky and where you are from.

The baby is not born yet, so this is not an opportunity to see the baby. As many as I have been invited to I have only attended one. It was the very first one (I had never heard of it before) and it was for triplets, so I was a little understanding of it.

My vote: tacky.
From Cali., live in Fla., now.
I Love attending & having baby showers; I have not heard of this. I wouldn't go just on the basis that I feel / believe she is just trying to get ppl to help her out, w/ the expense of diapers.
Now, w/ triplets...I'd have to give pause; cuz well everything is needed in triplcate.
But u should have handled that @ the baby shower in the 1st place.
Now, I have had mother's want to play a game / a lottery so to speak, concerning the diapers, @ the baby shower.
every1 whom brings diapers & wipes, gets their name put in a bowl, then 1 name gets pulled for a gift.
I feel its tacky.

Doesn't seem to be a trend here in Arizona. Maybe the hostess thought it would be a good idea since the mom-to-be didn't get many diapers.

I think it's pretty tacky, too. The only way it would make sense is if the participants were CLOSE friends and family members of the woman, and the gathering was very informal.

Baby showers are for women diaper parties are for guys. Its tacky if women come to the diaper party. So its for guys only to hang out play poker drink beer. And you bring a pack of diapers.

I don't think it's such a bad idea. You're not being asked to bring another "big" gift; a package of diapers just doesn't cost all that much. I mean, we're talking $9 or $10 here for a package of newborn diapers - not a $50 gift. It's a nice thing to do, I think, and a nice way for lots of the mom's friends to see the baby all at once, without tiring new mom and new baby. I am originally from Texas; I live in Washington state now.

Where I am (Canada) a diaper party is usually for the men...Personally I think its just an excuse for the father and his buddies to get together and drink before the baby comes lol. Women have their showers and men their diaper parties.
I don't think they paly cutsie games or anything though :)

I have never heard of having another shower after you have already have one. That IS having 2 showers and is VERY tacky! I have only heard of a "diaper/wipes shower" for people having their 2nd child. (or 3rd...etc..)

Im from NC

I live in the northeast and have never heard of such thing! To me it sounds a little tacky especially if you have all ready had a baby shower.

hey we rarely have baby showers in the UK. And a diaper party justs sounds ludicrous. thing is the more you go, the more you perpetuate the trend. be strong and just dont attend - you dont like the idea so dont support it.
