I was raised in a strong Christian home, but as I grew up and dug deeper into the religion I'm not so sure the view of the afterlife is correct.
The Christian view of Hell is based off of the concept of Gehenna, which is the "bad" side of Sheol, according to Judaism.
Gehenna in itself was previously just Sheol, where everyone went regardless of what they had done in their lives. In both the original and Judaic version of Sheol, people would remain there until judgement day. They were not the permanent heaven/hell idea as is now taught. It was closer to the Greek underworld Hades, or the Sumerian Irkalla, than it is to what Christians now believe.
After the Jewish people arrived in Jerusalem, the Valley of Hinnom inspired the creation of the Gehenna concept. It was a nearby valley where they placed the bodies of criminals and those who didn't receive a proper burial, as well as the city's garbage. Before that, the valley was used for child sacrifices by the Canaanites. To help control the stench and disease, they constantly would light fires throughout the valley. It was a horrible fiery place where the wicked or unworthy would go after they die... sound familiar?
There is no Biblical basis for the original shift which split Sheol into two halves, and there's no Biblical basis for our abandonment of the idea of Sheol and adoption of the Heaven and Hell. What that change happens is not explained.
We actually don't know where we'll go. If we ever even knew it, the truth has become blurred over the ages.

I am going into the ground one way or the other, when i am dead i will have no more worries about Christians trying to convert me to their way of life,i will become dust after the fly maggots and the worms have their feast of me.Actually i don't care where i go,because once your're dead you are a long time gone, and there is no return.
If there was then where are the lost souls that have already gone the way of the Dinosaur?and why haven't they come back to tell us what heaven or hell looks like. The simple fact is that all the Christians are chasing dreams, and are hoping that they are right ? Hahahbahaha thats the biggest joke of the Century,as all of you can keep chasing what ever, but we
that know where we are going will win out,and you will be left in limbo.

I guess that depends where I am at the end of my life. If i am still following Christ then I will be in the paradise of the righteous here on earth. If i am rebelling against God, my spirit will be imprisoned.
If you cared you wouldnt be able to preach about hell. You preach about hell because you dont know and understand what God has in store for the righteous. If you did you wouldnt be able to shut up about it.

Your truth and mine are not the same but I know where I am going when my time is done. I am sorry that you see God in such a small and negative way. God is so very much bigger than your conception of Him. I beg of you to search for truth also but not because I am afraid you might go to hell. Just that you might have peace in your soul. God is love - not fear.

"Hell is a real place and it is situated in the centre of the earth."
Are you kidding me? Hell is no more real than never-never land.
And you're not saying all of this because you care. Why would you care about the choices we make? You're just trying to get as many people onto your team so you look good in front of the coach, even though he's just a figment of your imagination.

I dont believe in heaven or hell. So im safe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe in karma& if I what I put out, comes back threefold (whilst i am living).
When I die, it will be a celebration. Death is a part of nautres cycle. I believe I will go to the summerlands, which is a transuill place. This will give me time to reflect on my past life, until I am ready to be sent to earth again.
I will not embrace a religion that promotes fear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... Sorry Jesus!

Hi cccjesus,
I personally am going to be cremated & my medical directive informs my children, my physician, my lawyer, my grandchildren, my great grandchildren, brothers & sisters, as to my last wishes. My children already know my last rights, I want to be cremated, my ashes to be spread at my favorite lake-therefore when my children, grand children, great grandchildren go to the lake to picnic, tan, swim, fish. watch sunrises & sunsets they can remember me & have a good time knowing how much I loved and enjoyed them all, that we always had the best of times at the lake. Besides it's part of life.
Have a good night. :0)
Additional Details: I am returning as a fish to see them grow.

Why can't you people stop talking about hell. It's just something man created because he has such a huge ego.
We will all go through the tunnel and see the light.

I'd rather go to Hell than worship a God who uses fear to try to make people love and accept him. Have you still not realized how pathetic that is. Would you torture your child forever if they just could not bring themselves to believe something you told them was true? What kind of parent would do that? Your God is scary!
