Many people tell me not to dwell on the negative & the past, but with my OCD unwanted thoughts, people in my past are unwantedly pictured in my mind, & it's bothersome, & I can't concentrate or focus on what I need to do or what I like to do. Many people have hurt me, & I can't get them out of my mind.

Try to make some new goals for meeting new people, trying new things. Take some new community college classes, make plans for how to fit new things or having new experiences in life. ie focus on the now and the near future. In fact, make some long term goals too and work towards them. Soon your life will be filled with the present and the future.

Your past experiences are important in helping you to not make the same mistakes. Maybe you need to figure out what those lessons are and get some closure first.

It may even be helpful to get some counselling to get closure.

Getting past bad experiences out of our minds is hard for any of us. I am sure it is harder with your OCD. Does your medication help with that at all or is that not how it works?

Personally for me, prayer has helped though I know that is not for everyone.

Good luck; I know how you feel about not being able to let things go.

My son has OCD, and he is under a psychiatrist's care, as they are able to dispense prescription medication for many disorders. There are prescription medications that can aid in the control the OCD. Your doctor would be able to advise what may work for you in that area. If it is interfering with your life, then you need to seek professional help to find out what is available to help you cope. My son's psychiatrist is a blessing, as he has helped him immensely.
