I would have to say the Japanese solders were the worst. They treated pow's like they were subhuman, often killing them and forcing them to march and work with very little food and even less medical supplies. They also raped and murdered innocent civilians of the areas they took over and fought to the end in many cases. Even after the battles were all but won by the American or British forces the Japanese would still fight in order to kill as may as they could and so they would not be taken alive. They were even arming the people of main land Japan with sharp sticks and so on and telling the girls to get the American men in bed with them then to stab them to death. So I feel that the Japanese went far beyond what war should have been conducted like. The Germans were no angles the were far from it. but at lest even some German leaders began to see how crazy Hitler was and tried to kill him. They also treated out POWs better as a whole than the guys in Japanese POW camps. That is why I think the Japanese where worse than the Germans. Look at how many Chinese, and Philippine people they killed. I would say that it could be as high as the men, women, and children of the holocaust constructed by the Germans. So that is why I feel the Japanese were far worse. If they had been more like the Germans, then there would have been no reason to drop the atomic bombs. It was either that or risk loosing millions more in American lives if we had tried to invade the homeland of the Japanese. I am so glad those days are over and done with. I was fortunate enough to fall for a Japanese exchange student in high school. If the hostility was still between our 2 nations I would have never gotten the wonderful joy of falling in love with Nao Adachi back in high school. I would not trade those memories for the world. =)

>>conranger1.....hello there, sorry if you feel that this question seems to be promoting hatred....however, I can assure you that the Asker is neither provoking nor spreading any hatred. He is asking perhaps he is just curious or wants to know what others think. The Asker is NOT a hater, neither is he a racist....I know the Asker well enough to know.
Thankyou....anyway, I do find your answer very relevant and informative too.... :~)

I do not hate, not even the ones who deem themselves as my enemy.
Now, I hate that because I cannot hate....grrrrr....
I was not born during the WWII so I do not know.......what I have learned and heard were history.....yes, in Asia (as dk mentioned), Japan was (I said WAS) hated because of its gory and cruel killings. In the West, it was Germany....but then again, all those who killed and maimed are the bad ones...even those of today....thankyou.

To whom is this question addressed?

The Allied WW2 Veterans.

Or the youth of today who have very little idea of what life was like back then?

Do you think the majority of people from Japan and Germany still have the same mindset as they did back in WW2?

So, why limit it to Germany and Japan, what about the Hungarians, Romanians, Italians, Serbians, Bulgarians, the many people from the German occupied countries who joined for the love of Fascism or the hatred of Communisum.

The Russians, the Latvians, the Polish, the Estonians and even the Americans.??

I do not see the relevence of your question except to promote hatred.

My issues with WWII have little to do with the soldiers. I have issues with the governments that gave those soldiers orders.
The SS were monsters, so if I have to specify soldiers I will take that particular group of German soldiers.

I wasn't born during WWII. In Asia, most of us hate Japanese. Do you know that the German really took care of their P.O.W? (prisoner of war) Most of the German P.O.W. were die of sickness or wound . The number is low. In the another hand, Japanese torture their P.O.W. to death. Before Japanese surrender Japanese soldier tried to kill all the P.O.W., some burn to death, some were buried alive.

During WWII a lot of Malaysian Chinese civilian had been killed by Japanese soldier because Japanese Soldier were defeat by China soldier. That the way they took revenge.

As for me, I don't like Japan government. Do you know that the Japanese government claim that the WWII was helping to liberate the asian countries. This is written in their history book. They had the gut to go to war, but no gut to admit they were wrong. Germany had learn their lession from WWII.

no question of course the Jap la....the more they denied it, the more people are angry with them!

edit : YOU ARE RIGHT dk, in fact history that being taught in Japan choose to ignore WW2, or change the story instead. Even in Hiroshima Peace Museum, there are question about why US chose to bomb Hiroshima with A-bomb instead of asking themself why they attacked PEARL harbour and invading the whole asia at the first place!
