I havent ever tipped a take out order, the only person I have ever given a tip to would be the Pizza delivery. I dont give tips to take out, because they didnt do anything for me except put the food in a box and hand it to me. I only tip if i am staying in the restaurant and have a good waiter/waitress.

I was a waitress so of course I tip- so many people are frankly uncultured and disgusting. They should not eat out if they can't afford it. Pathetic- we can be embarassed for them together.

Of course people should tip. In NYC it's customary and one can get an education doing this job. Even in CT, which is kind of gross and sad, one can at least live (I know I am a snob, but I've cleaned up a lot of filth, too- Ivy league + filth = right to sound off). Where on earth are you that people are not tipping? Barbarians!

Huh...interesting question. We always tip. Never thought not to. I'm talking places like Chili's - regular sit down restaurant that we called an order in to. We always tip that person when we go in to pick up. I'm assuming you aren't meaning Burger King or a place along those lines.

You know, it has always bothered me some that the people who SERVE the meal, the people who DELIVER the food, and now, the people who "take the order" all want tips, and are expected to get tips... but...

The people who actually PREPARE and COOK the food... the cooks... get ... NOTHING! THEY are the ones who actually labored over the hot stoves, ovens, fryers..... they are the ones who chopped, cut, molded,.... they are the ones who boiled, broiled, fried, sauted your food, and THEY don't receive TIPS... not normally!

I know some places have "tip sharing" ... and in those cases, the cooks receive a portion of the tips left by customers, but in the normal course of events, the ones who actually put their "blood, sweat, and tears" (figuratively speaking, of course!!!)... don't receive the "atta-boy" or "atta-girl" tips to say, "Hey, you cooked my steak to perfection, THANKS!" and so on.

But it seems that everyone else who does not have their fingers in the real pie are asking and expecting money for just "handing over" the fruits of the cooks' labor!

GO FIGGR!!!

Have a polite day!

If I feel I got excellent service I might tip in a restaurant, but never in a take-away shop. I'd also tip the pizza delivery person. Probably because my son was one once and I have more empathy for them.

If I have the money to tip the person who brings the take-out, I do; otherwise, I don't. I used to work at a car wash, and tips were well appreciated.

I understand how restaurant workers live mostly on tips, but if I don't have it, why should they make me feel guilty for not having it?

Yes, properly you should. but if the person who served you was rude or turned you off, give a small tip or no tip at all

I don't do it as much as I should. I used to bartend and part of my job was to take takeout orders, this was a real pain when we were packed and I had orders tickets stacking up. I was rarely tipped and thus, hated "takeouters".

Not in a fit!

Especially not for the poor service I generally get. The chics serving generally act as though they wished they were somewhere else - & were doing you a favour by serving you.

i usually tip 10-15% when i go out to eat (depending on how good my math is and what i want to round the total to)
