I have tennis practice from 3-5 every weekday. I apply generous amounts of spf 50 lotion all over. In the last 2 weeks, seems my face and other places has darkened 3 shades. Went from beige to olive complection.

It's most likely because your sunscreen/sunblock only protects you from UVB rays (UVB causes burning). If you don't want to tan, you need to get a sunscreen/sunblock that also protects against UVA rays (UVA is what causes the tanning). A lot of sunscreens on the US market only protect against UVB rays and not UVB AND UVA. Most of these sunscreens, if not all, are labeled "Broad-protection", meaning they protect againt both UVB and UVA, but this is all just false. You actually have to check the ingredients list to determine if your sunscreen offers protection against both these rays. **By the way, just so you know, companies can label their products whatever they want; the FDA doesn't look into the labels ... It's really important to know the chemicals and science into the stuff you're buying. I would say that over 85% of the time, consumers are getting ripped off with false advertising.

Anyway, some quality US sunscreens are Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 55 and 70 (not the 30 and 45 ... they suck!). Aveeno has some good sunscreens as well. Just for a tip, when going for chemical sunscreens (as physical sunblocks can leave the face white *because of Titanium Dioxide and/or Zinc Oxide), go with the sunscreen that has the active Avobenzone AND Octocrylene. Very important!! Avobenzone protects against UVA (and thus, tanning) but it needs Octocrylene to get stability!

Another good sunscreen is L'Oreal's La Roche Posay SPF 15 with Mexoryl. Mexoryl (aka Encamsule) is another fantastic UVA sunscreen.

HTH!

You are probably getting more tan because, your spf is wearing off. Just reapply the spf after about an hour. If your doing an outside activity your are going to get a little tan.

can u cover the sun with a finger?
same thing with the lotion. it protects you from burning, but you're still going to get some of those rays penetrating your skin
