I'm using it for a (spray) painting. And if you know the best type of paper to spray paint on, that'd be great.

I have done numerous spray paintings. I have found that even the cheapest "Dollar Store" brand works just as well. You can use even standard poster board (Wal-Mart or Dollar Store)

I will even give some of my samples below as a source to look at..
The first two were done with spray paint and acrylic....
The bottom two were simply done with spray paint along

I buy my spray paint at a place like Kroegers/Fred Meyer where it generally runs between $3.50 to $4.50 a can. I also grab a coupon on the way in that knocks another 10% off the price.

As far as a paper surface, you are just going to have to experiment! Cheaper grades such as butcher paper and newsprint are too porous (unless that's the look your are after) ~ I'd be tempted to use illustration board myself, which is what we used to use for air brushed projects.

Lazarine,
try paper for marker pens, and any acid-free paper that has a surface texture you like.
