I read answers from people like "CJ" who for some reason likes to voice his uneducated answers. Ironically I see so many people bashing Catholicism, but I don't see many Catholics calling other religions wrong. (I have read a lot of previous posts to prove this.)
Its like the world likes to scrutinize Catholicism. What for?? Are they that insecure with their own beliefs that all they can voice is negativity. Wouldn't you reason that "they have their beliefs and I have mine, and thats ok"? I get a kick out of so called "religious people" who bash on other religions.....it doesn't say very much for what your faith teaches you.

Those of you who are bashing it right now are proving my point. Who REALLY cares what you think??? You will think what you want, just the same as I or anyone else will. Why verbalize it?

And I never said Catholics don't bash other religions in life, that would be a total generalization. But in reading previous posts, I found no Catholic claiming another religion to be wrong.

As for church corruption, I haven't met a church that hasn't had any. People focus on the Catholic Church.

I can answer your question with one word. Ignorance. The fact is that the Catholic Church is the oldest church that started it all. Jesus said, " Peter you are the rock upon which I shall build my church ". CHURCH. Singular not plural. One church. Not several denominations all in his name. People like to give their own interpretations of the bible and what they think Jesus really meant. You know? Another fact is that the Catholic church retains many secrets of the past that must remain hidden from the public for whatever reasons they deem worthy. Can 4.5 billion catholics be wrong? This isn't about me being right, this is about the truth and people do not believe in the truth. They believe whatever makes them feel better so that guilt will not settle in. You know?

The Catholic Church has a long and not always terribly noble history, which makes it an easy target for criticism. It is also liable to heavy criticism from fundamentalist Christians because the Catholic Church does not interpret the bible literally but also relies on what it calls 'Tradition'. It's certainly very easy to find many Catholic traditions that conflict with biblical teaching such as the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, the Assumption and so forth.

The issue of Catholic 'bashing' goes as far back as the Reformation when practices such as the sale of Indulgences were heavily criticised by Protestant reformers and by key figures such Martin Luther, Calvin and John Knox in their various works. In this part of Protestant theological thought there is a strong tradition of identifying the Catholic church as the 'Whore of Babylon' and the other complex, symbolic images that appear in the Book of Revelations.

The Catholic church is also highly susceptible to criticism because of the vast number of cases of paedophilia that have occurred amongst the clergy. Unfortunately for the Church, it hasn't really helped its own cause by often covering up these cases, transferring the priests to another diocese or parish and never addressing the problems until now. But, then again, times are vastly different from what they were even in the '70s when matters like that were never publicly spoken about.

Like any big multinational, it has a long history that makes it an easy target and, sometimes, it's been its own worst enemy in the way it has addressed those criticisms.

Just for the record, I am an atheist and I am not supporting the Catholic church, just presenting an objective answer.

Well, being so large, we do serve as a lightening rod for anyone with a problem with religion in any form.

In addition, the Church has believed the same dogma for 2K years and not bent to the world and the opinions of the world. This alone causes people to hate us.

People call us "rules based" and don't understand that the point of the Church is to help people come to God and go to Heaven. Instead, their pride causes them to lash out. Few people wish to receive any sort of spirtitual correction!

Most people don't have a problem with Catholics as much as they do the Chruch. And with good reason.

The Catholic Church has a long, rich history of money-grubbing, corruption, promoting genocide, stealing, pedophelia, and all kinds of other distinctly non-Christian things.

We're talking about the institution that opposes sending condoms to Africa because they believe all those people deserve to get AIDS and die because they "fornicated." Yeah, as if the women that are being raped can really help it.

If you can't figure out why the world hates the Catholic Church, whether you're Catholic or not, you've been living under a rock.

The History of the Catholic Church is well tarnished. The Crusades didn't help. When the Pope told Galileo to shut up regarding the truth about the Universe didn't help. and the frosting on the cake was when it was discovered that Priests had been molesting children for decades and the Church knew about it and just moved those Priests to another parish where they molested more children. And admitting that 30-40% of its Priests are gay. Jesus must be shaking his head, "No".

I don't understand why anyone would hate any type of church. I am not Catholic but I have attended Catholic churches and found the teachings very interesting.

I am not Catholic or any other religion. I do not believe in organized religion however I do believe that everyone has a right to worship or not worship as they choose. Any religion that teaches its followers that they are the only true/right religion is in no way following Gods teachings. They are only following a warped version of what they wanted God to say.

The reason a lot of folks 'bash' Catholicism is because of the history of the Catholic church. Many of their doctrines are started by the popes, not directly from the scriptures. A friend of mine has taken to reading a book on Catechism of the Catholic church, and it says that in addition to scripture, they believe that the words the pope speaks are from God, and those words become like new scripture. Problem is, those 'words from God' can change. I just recently found out that the Catholic church did not believe in the perpetual virginity of Mary until around 1830, when the pope 'received a word from God'. You can't just add stuff to the scripture! The pope could say anything- how can you prove it? Only the men who were with Jesus Christ Himself, or the Apostle Paul, whom the apostles themselves gave credence to, can really be trusted to bring forth the actual word of God, because they were with the Lord Himself.
Other doctrines, like the fact that priests are not allowed to marry- where does it say that in the scripture? All it does is cause tremendous difficulty for a lot of very human guys who still struggle with sexual urges. God doesn't forbid marriage- yet the Catholic church has imposed this doctrine on its priests. They have also taught about Mary being a co-redeemer. Mary was a human being! She's not a goddess. She wasn't eternal. For us to worship her, or pray to her is blasphemous! She was one lucky lady, but not worthy of worship. It is because the Catholic church continues to propogate such false doctrines rather than go back to the original scripture and do what it says, that a lot of people consider Catholicism a cult. In every cult, there is always a measure of truth. It is the false doctrines you have to really worry about. If God says I need to trust in Christ for my salvation, and I trust in Mary instead, I have been deceived. That is enough to make any Christian look down on the Catholic church. Such erroneous teaching could cost me my salvation, and send me to hell, and I wouldn't know it till I got there!
