Ohhh yeah, I'm with you on this one.
As a strong believer in karma, i just don't see how the evangelists get at this whole "repent" thing.
But, that' their belief. Too bad for them, cause I'm pretty sure I'm not "damned", even though I am in ther eyes!

I don't understand it either. It sounds too much like a "Get out of Jail Free" card. The message has a surface value of "You can do whatever you want and never be punished as long as you claim Jesus Christ as your savior". As a teacher, that sounds like a horrible lesson to be teaching people. It says that as long as you believe a certain way, you will never be held accountable for your actions. I much prefer the whole fire and brimstone deal of being damned for eternity if you screw up your one and only life. It's not as hope filled as believing that God will forgive anything, but it's more realistic for day to day life.
ON A DEEPER LEVEL: Perhaps the message is to get people to turn their lives around. Repent and start a fresh life by following God's path and you will have a better life and a clearer conscience. This one too is unrealistic though for daily life. Even if a murder repents and begins a new life as a truly devout follower and becomes a veritable saint, he will still live a life of difficulty because he will no longer be trusted or accepted by society due to his crime. The only reward would be in the person knowing that they have changed their ways and are accepting of the consequences their actions have brought on. But that's not much incentive to repent and turn a new leaf.

It is actually pretty funny when you think about it.
Aren't they mainly, "preaching to the choir"? After all most, if not all, the people at the sermon have already repented and been "saved". That is the whole purpose of their beliefs....
So, a better quote would be, repent again and again and be saved again and again.
whatever.

I'm annoyed with it too..you dont get saved just by being sorry for things you've done and do...you have to practice what you preach..and change your way of life..follow what the bible says and not alter them to what you would like them to be.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but Mr. Darwin can not bless anyone. It is not good to annoy people and I will not put the fuel into the fire. I will say only that God nevertheless loves all people and He and His worshipers want only to help people to begin to understand the truth of God and to find the better way of life for your own good.

Agreed. Repenting won't save you. Accepting God and His plan of salvation through Jesus will Save you.
Repent, to turn away from your old ways, implies that there is something wrong with your choices. That is like saying, your dumb, you weren't smart enough to figure it out. How inconsiderate!
