I had never thought of this before. My partner Gwenneth and I knew each other for 3 years before buying a house and living together. This lasted for 42 years.
What was your experience in this regard ?
Love,
Rose P.

Dear deautophile and others,
my profile will give you some information.
The whole story is too long to go into here but I will say that my beloved died while I was overseas. Her family claimed her remains and had them buried them under a stone bearing the words "UNKNOWN TO GOD".

My girl and I each have separate houses each with kids not yet leaving home sons in their 20's& my daughter is 14!! Our relationship has spanned over ten years now ..we see each other usually every day and every second weekend we spend together usually at her house . We have spent up to two weeks living together at a time but we both wish it was our day to day reality.. Our future plan is to have a small house each, one perhaps in the mountains and one at the coast .In reality this probably will not happen until my daughter finishes high school or decides to live with her father ?? The alternative brady bunch is too much to contemplate .. It gets more complicated as we both have elderly parents to consider also !!! Drives us nuts occasionally ... we usually solve the exasperation with an escape holiday to get some solid together time...42 years sounds like a long lovely time Rose you have been truly blessed love Ms.K

My wife and I dated for a year before we bought a house together and were together 3 years before we got married. We've been together almost 7 years now. I often thought that buying a house together is similar to getting married legally as it takes some time and effort to "divorce". You can't just walk out during an argument.

"living together" these days means more than just "living together", and as far as I know the new kind of "living together" didn't mean that 42 years ago, so I don't understand your status. I have no experience with this sort of thing, nor do I understand what you're asking when you say "how long".
My thought is that one of each seems appropriate for engagement which should last about 18 months and then a traditional church marriage with one being the real female mother and one being the real male father for the purpose of having biological children.
I don't believe in buying a house with anyone. I believe it should be in the name of one person with a will to leave it to someone else in the family.

My wife and I had a very long distance relationship for 12 years, and my mother's broken that record with her fiance.

I dated my now hubby for 2 years before we lived together.
And you truly cannot know another until after you live together.

I admire you and your partner for a long lasting relationship. However in my case, I hope this becomes a reality.
