I was barred from entering an indian casino today and the fake cop was to blame. I wanted to make him suffer.

What makes you become a security guard?

That depends on the person. Some people do it because they can't get a job as a real cop.
Some people do it to earn a little extra money
Some do it as an early job before entering the police academy.
Some are real cops, who are moonlighting
Some people do it because they like the idea of being a guard.

Generally, security guards must closely follow policy. Many, but not all, are trained in the policy.

You do not have much of an appeal process for the casinos. You would do best to either appologize or to just stay away for the period you are banned.

I was a "Security Officer" in a Las Vegas casino. It was a great job with great pay and benefits. I had better benefits than the Police Officers I worked with. I had thought about applying for the LVMPD early on but after awhile I decided to stay with the Security job. Less headaches and better conditions. Don't get me wrong I have all the respect in the world Police Officers...they have a hard job. I just enjoyed my job. Why were you barred from entering the casino? Were you of legal age to be in the Casino?

Security is a fairly easy job and it pays more then most rental and fast food places.

When you get into higher levels of security, hospitals, government contracts, casino security, ect, the people doing those jobs tend to be well trained and well paid.

The average hospital security guard around here makes between $14-17/hr to start. Not the best money in the world, but not too bad for the work.

Why would one become a security guard? Oh, little things like rent, phone bills, electric bills, gasoline, insurance, the occasional meal...

Look, nobody aspires to become a security guard, but it's a necessary position and lots of people rescue themselves from economic disaster by taking that job.

The question I have for you would be, why was the 'fake cop' barring you from entering the casino? Couldn't have had something to do with your conduct, could it?

I've had some guards who were cops moonlighting to make a little extra cash, and a lot of guards are old guys over 65 who work part-time to help supplement their Social Security income. Some are college students who like that kind of job because they can sit at their desk and study while watching their post, and I've known some guys who were physically handicapped due to previous work-related injuries and could no longer perform manual labor (like one guard I knew who lost half his fingers in a construction accident, and another who was an old WWII veteran with a missing left foot). And honestly, private security is an easy job that requires minimal, if any, training or effort. So you also get a lot of mental losers and social misfits in this industry who simply never could do anything better with their lives.

Casino Security Guards are probably off duty cops. (Don't F with them)

And people are security guards primarily to make money, though some are sadists and get a kick out of making people suffer and screwing with them.

Sounds like you got a raw deal. But here's the other side to the coin, why do people assume they have the god given right to abuse and attack Security Guards who are only enforcing policies that their employers have laid out. As a Security Guard I get sick and tired of coping abuse from people who knowingly flout the laws and when confronted take offence and resort to gutter tactics to weed their way out of trouble. Simple don't break the laws applied at a premises patrolled by security and you wont be bought to task for it.

I wouldnt become a security guard. But he was doing his job if you did something to provoke it. What did you do, you just cant be kicked out of a casino for no good reason.

In my small town there are about five security jobs. They are worked by off duty police and retired police. Off-duty ones do it for extra cash and the retired ones usually work enough hours to get health insurance.

We work the hospital ( who only hire Police), Walmart, Construction equipment company, and money transfers for banks. Some of these are seasonal some year round. Got nothing to do with"power and authority". All about making a living.

It's a job. Alot of security jobs have great benefits, but the bad thing is that sometimes the little power that they have goes to their head. I'm sure you caught that guy/girl on a bad day. Thats probably what got you in trouble.
