You will not have to go to basic again. I was a recruiter. You may lose some of your rank, though. You also might have to go back through AIT, if you change your MOS, but Basic stays with you, unless you decide to go Infantry. You will also have all of your old awards that you had the first time. Hope that helps.

What tasha said about basic "staying with you" is incorrect, which makes me doubt she was ever a recruiter. I've got a few guys in my company that got out, then came back in. If you rejoin within a certain period, you can for go basic training, but if its been too long, you'll just have to go to the warrior transition course, its only like 4 or 5 weeks, and its nothing like basic training.

I dont know the exact details, but I know there is a window of time you have to come back in and not have to do basic again. Just keep in mind you will be around new guys if you need to go to an OSUT or AIT anyway if you get a different MOS than what you had previously.
Plus dont worry even if you do have to go to basic again, these days they have really calmed down, all our new guys out of OSUT are out of shape, which leads me to think that they didn't do crap while there.

Nope,

You will have to go to the Four week

" Warrior Transition Course" at fort Bliss.

Thats for anyone who has been out more than two years.

And prior service from the Navy and Air Force.

Talk to your recruiter. I've never heard of a veteran having to go back through basic.

Its my understand that by going into the same branch you were in, you will not have to. As a matter of fact, as I recall, you are not required to go unless you enter the USMC. Which I would hope you have better sense.

(Just kidding Leathernecks.)

That would be dealt through your local recruiter but it is doubtful that you would have to go through basic again.

refresher YES, complete basic NO.

You will have to get back in shape but you won't have to go back to hell.

Good Luck, keep your nose down.

I'm pretty sure you've been out too long to avoid basic.
