Try taking a stroll at, say, 1am through the mountains. No artificial light, no weapons, no other humans. If this is not an experience of true divinity, such does not exist in my opinion. The feelings awakened may be mistaken for whatever religion you may believe in, but they are pure instinct, as old as humanity, and as wild as any wolf. Humanity has forgotten its natural state: as wild and free as the eagles and elk. Good night and pleasant dreams.

I've done this on various terrains on five continents and eight islands. Thanks for reminding me I should go do it again.

I live in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. No need to take a stroll deer, squirrels, bears, mountain lions and many other types of wildlife stroll through my yard on a regular basis.. While we have to call and have the more dangerous types removed for public safety the others are very interesting and beautiful to watch....

As I look out now a small group of deer ( 1 buck 2-3 does and a couple of babies that look to be under a year old ) are down in the pasture behind the front yard... Haven't seen but 1 mountain lion this year, luckily, although with the fire moving closer there is the possibility of more soon.. As for bears the last one I saw was a couple years back with the new ordinance requiring covered trash can shelters the reports of bears close to houses has greatly diminished..

While I can appreciate nature wondering the woods at night without protection with predator animals around is not advisable..

I live in Florida so we don`t have mountains but yes I have walked a lone through heavy woods at night with out a flash light. Why did I ,Our horses got loose and I had to try and find them. You become more alert at night.Your eyes adjust to the night where you can see if there is any moon and star light. It is a very close feeling one gets when alone in the dark with a great open sky over head. But you have to be careful that you don`t walk up on something that can be there and you not see it.Most animals will run from you but not all.If you are just sitting alone and in a save place then you can feel a closeness with God and the earth.A real peace and also you understand just how small you are in the greater scheme of things.

It's not a good idea to walk in and on the wild side at night with no light or means to protect yourself. Especially if the area is where bears and wolves and other natural creatures roam for food. Good night and pleasant dreams.

Yes - I used to do this all the time as a teenager. Now that I'm back in the mountains, I'll take the habit up again when it's not so dry - too many mountain lions running hungry around here... I'd rather not be midnight snack.

Once, while camping I got up in the night and sat in the moonlight, listening to the night sounds and heard a mountain lion screeching in the forest. Far enough away to not be alarmed, yet intrigued by it's song. It happened a long time ago. I'll never forget it.

I used to work in the back country of the High Sierras and sleep under the stars alone for four days at a time.I have seen incredible sites that one could never see down below.

Bears are dangerous animals. I'd never go near them unless armed. Deer, no problem. But bears? I'd be happy to walk through the woods at night, but only with a 30.06. Don't mess with bears, they'll turn on without the slightest provacation.

I have walked in the woods at night. Not in the mountains (that would be scary) but in a medium sized patch of woods. It will put every sense in your body on the edge. I will sleep well thanks...in my snug little bed with my doors locked and my fan blowing.

check this out: when i first time spent night in mountains, it was (4th July) summer storm! even moon was gone, pitch dark, with arms stretched out feels like swimming trough darkness!
after 1 pm clouds cleared the sky, i think it was over 1000,0000 stars above my shaky tent.. than wild donkeys came out late for food...what do you say about this experience!?

One of the requirements to graduate from my special forces unit was to sneak up on a deer and slap it on the butt.

I graduated.
