Another loaded question, depending on when you were told this, (if you were ever told this, as you get older you start to imagine things, or alternatively you have nothing better to do than go trolling on Y/A everyday).
With regards "If",
You, collectively (the American Nation) did lose in Vietnam.
One definition of losing is when: you pull out of a allied country as fast as you can, abandoning the people of said Asian Nation to their fate with the North Vietnamese.
Another is the incredible amount of military supplies that was destroyed by the American Military,
including the dumping of perfectly good helicopters from the decks of Aircraft carriers in the South Asian Seas. (or was it all at its "sell or use by date"?).
Or was this some cunning strategy to confuse the American population into thinking it was a great victory?
Thankfully that mentality was not around during WW2 or Korea.
So you managed to survive the Viet-Nam era congratulations, but spare a thought for the many who did not make it back, on both sides, the missing and the families of both countries who lost their loved ones.
Many of the men involved from both sides of the conflict firmly believed they were doing what was right for their country.
By the way "Bravo Zulu" most Cambodians died under the Cambodian dictator Pol-Pot and not at the hands of the Vietnamese, dont go twisting and shaping history to suit your own argument, it always fails.
Chuck P, if any country such as France sees the winds of change, and recognises that the old pre WW2 Colonial days are over and decide to leave a country to be independent, then that country decides to have a Civil War to see who will control it (samething happened in Algeria) it you cant accuse that country of screwing up.
Many of the countries who were granted Independence immediately decended into civil War over the years, going back as far as the American Civil War, the Congo, Mozambique, Angola, Lebanon, Cyprus, Ireland, Germany after WW, India, etc.. etc..

There are, i think of, 2 explanation why usa lost in Vietnam. And please, shall we've not have been given any fudging, the U. S. become defeated. Their purpose become to keep away from the communist North overunning the democratic south - and that they did no longer do this. it fairly is a loss in each and every individual's e book. yet there's no shame in dropping, basically in no longer attempting. reason a million: you won't be able to defeat a comparatively cellular guerrilla military with common armies and strategies. The Vietnam conflict become no longer the Korean conflict, i do no longer think of the u . s . a . realised that till it become too late. reason 2: you won't be able to win a conflict battling for a human beings (the South Vietnamese) who fairly do no longer care which part wins as long as they are able to get on with their lives. there have been 5th columnists everywhere and there become no way for the U. S. forces to tell.

I disagreed with Vietnam and disagree with Iraq. When the politicians want to start sending THEIR sons and daughters to fight their wars, MAYBE I'll change my mind (doubt it). It wasn't bad enough that you guys got forgotten (screwed) but now it is happening to the newest group of war veterans, of another war that we will not win. We can't go to war and handcuff the military. If there is no clear objective, there can be no victory. Terrorism is something that Iraq will not solve. Just like Vietnam didn't stop the spread of Communism.

I'm a vet and my dad was a Vietnam vet. We're both proud to have served!! Both wars were necessary and justified. Sorry you can't see that.
OBTW, we didn't lose in Vietnam, we 'cut and run.' Just like some want us to do now.
Iraq has nothing in common with Vietnam expect the lunatic politicians ruining it.

The domino theory proved to not be real. Just like the coming of the next ice age predicted in the 70's. Glad you had a nice life with all that transparent blood on your hands...like you aren't part of the machine... yeah right.

Lucky for you. Vietnam was not so kind for a large number of my friends, family or myself.
The current war will produce another generation of young men and women haunted by their experiences.

Does the US government tell you things often? I never heard them tell me about a terrible life. And we didn't lose anything, it was a police action and yes it was effective regardless of what you may think. Don't forget we went in after the French screwed everything up. I for one think it's disrespectful to our service men that died to say they died in vain. And it was a Democrat that got us into that war in case you forgot.

Evidently the government was right. All you ever do here is whine about how terrible things are for you in the USA.

government isn't peace-seeking by nature. nations invariantly want to conquer all. the UN and fears of foreign retaliation keeps everything in check so that there isn't anyone who controls all the power.
peace has become a lifestyle these days.
