From the Lexapro website: "Lexapro is well tolerated by most people. The most commonly reported side effects of Lexapro are nausea, insomnia, problems with ejaculation, somnolence, increased sweating, fatigue, decreased libido, and anorgasmia. Most of the side effects experienced by patients taking Lexapro are mild to moderate and go away with continued treatment, and usually do not cause patients to stop taking Lexapro."
Did you experience a decreased libido? If so, how much did it drop and did it come back as you continued on the drug. I know this is pretty hard to measure. My wife says it has killed hers and we have basically stopped. Seems kind of extreme but possible I guess.

Thank you all for your feedback. Great personal stories and you really helped me more than you know.
I almost awarded best to destinishadow1 for pointing out the poetic nature of my question. LOL
Jess: Thanks for sharing. I think as long as your happy then don't worry about it all. I think your one of the few who would call this side effect "interesting" LOL
Country Mom: At least your friend was doing the job :-) j/k I don't really want my wife to do it if it were a job or chore because I can take a good guess at how awkard that probably is.
stephsteph320: Please email me with whatever tricks you do to keep it "regular" WOW!
kelly: Nice Save! I don't know why men take this stuff personal. Fortunatly, I take Adderall for ADHD so I KNOW about effects and side effects but there was still this, "its because of my small..." is why she isn't. Stupid male brain! :-)
Meg: Lucky You! How good was your libido before you got on the meds :-) Everyone's biochemistry different.

Yes I have been on it for about 6 years and my libido is shot!! Its sad so I went to a GYN (gynecologist) and thankfully they put me on testosterone hormone which it's not enough to make me manly. It's really low. Its a gel that you rub on your wrists you can also get it as a lozenge, also get is mixed with vaseline. It is a compounded medication.
If she doesn't want to go here she may want to just over all change medication. Wellbutrin is the one that has the least side effects with libido. Of they can add Wellbutrin to help.
Any and ALL anti-depressant pretty much drop libidos so any doctor can confirm this just ask! SORRY!
There is help just ask...

OK. I'm a guy, and must say something about Lexapro. It's been almost a year. It kills, like Arnold kills in the movies, your, yup. Doesn't matter your gender. Gals have it easier. Your stuff is just there. Guys depend on, you know what. {They've redone this site, and need to stay, family safe}. If there's any questions, ask your kids. They're miles ahead of us. Gee daddy, how does the stork know when you ^#@! mommy? Anyway, back to the thing at hand, or without. I'll take it's positive effects. Otherwise, you wouldn't want me around. It may, or not work. It's a throw of the dice. I'll still stick with the Lexapro. I know I'm OK that way. I hope. Bye bye.

Very possiable it could do that to her. I have know 3 people on lexapro 2 females and 1 males, All stoped taking it because of NO Libido. 1 of the ladies said she couldnt get in the mood no matter what she tried and sex became more of a job than something fun or good.

I've been on it for a year now and I have no desire or interest whatsoever. Fortunately I'm a widow and live alone so it doesn't bother a soul but I do find it remarkable that I don't have any reaction to any efforts undertaken by myself. It's like someone turned off a switch.
I wouldn't stop taking Lexapro for anyone but it is an interesting side effect.

I've been on it for about 3 years now, and I haven't experienced a decrease in libido. Your wife could try switching to another drug that has less or different side effects. Depending on the severity of her depression, there are also other ways to combat it other than drugs, such as exercise and herbs.

In the last month I have completely stopped taking Lexapro. My libido is great now!!! I did not realize how bad it was until now. I feel better than even now that I have stopped taking it. I am less moody and much much happier now also....... hopefully it lasts.

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!
1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.
2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.
The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.
After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net
Ohhh..and Good Luck!
