its like that saying "the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer". Human beings are selfish things and when rich famous people do give to charity, they make it known to the world how much they gave, most don't give it because they have compassion in their hearts for the needy, they give it because they want people to acknowledge them and give them praise. in their minds they would be thinking "look at me, look what i did, aren't i generous and kind". they boast about it because they want self recongnition.
The more money they make, the more they want. And they are never satisfied. It's like, they have built their lifestyles around spending a certain amount a week to keep up with the "hollywood lifestyle", if they were forced to spend less, they wouldn't survive. $50,000 a year wage would be the jackpot for most people but to people such as movie stars, they would probably commit suicide because they would be considered "poor". They live the lifestyle of luxery and they are use to it, they are use to getting what they want and anything less they can't stand it.
Don't worry tho, most of these people aren't happy. Lots of famous musician and actors are on heavy drugs, alcohol and suffer severe depression. They have everything yet they lack something.

Well its society that lets them get paid that much. We look up to them SO much that over time they started demanding more and more just for their faces to be appeared on a film. They know that if a common movie star is in a movie more people will watch it rather than some no name actor. I think that Police Officers, Fire Fighters, Doctors, People in Military, Teachers, and any one who HELPS the world in a good way should be paid that much money. Still wouldnt mind being an actress though! ha

Many actors are close to starving and certainly living in poverty, so only the stars get the really big bucks. They get it because they are in demand - there is only one Julia Roberts. There is only one Whoopi Goldberg.
They sell movies and negotiate for a big salary through agents. Then, the public is willing to lay down $10 for a movie ticket to see these stars. Ask this - would Die Hard have been a box office hit without Bruce Willis? - No. Some movies stand on their own merits and sell well, others need those stars to make people see them.

Studios don't see them as actors - they are a product. Would you be mad if the ipod made millions. They do a lot of work way after the movie is completed. They travel worldwide and answer the same stupid questions and have to make it seem fresh and exciting like no one ever asked that question before. Truly difficult to do if the movie stinks like a skunk worldwide and they have to keep smiling and telling everyone it's a must see. How embarrassing is that?
However, I argree that it's silly. But when are people going to petition for teachers to get paid like a rock start when they turn rock head bratty students into Einsteins?

it's like athletes too, people who can hit a ball with a bat or throw a football sign contracts for multi-millions of dollars. celebrities make that much because they are in high demand and people are willing to cough up $100 just to get pretty crappy seats, then spend $8 for a cold hot dog. now add up all those seats and all the money the advertisers pay to have something like a Viagra sign behind homeplate.. it's absurd but that's what the people want. people want to spend $5 on a trash magazine in which the photographers are paid $100,000 for a clandestine picture of a secret wedding, or someone's latest DUI.

Movie stars get paid so much because we lived in a society where all sound reason is gone. We complain about a medical bill or food bill but don't think twice about entertainment bills. We put them on a pedestal and then pay them to stay there, or some do, I don't. I won't pay to see any of them.

1. It's because millions of persons pay to see movies. If everyone gave the money that they spend on movie tickets to charity instead of going to the movies, then the money would go to good causes instead of the stars.
2. Per person who watches, they actually get paid very little. If 10 million persons watch a movie and the star gets $10 million; and 100,000 (including the TV audience) watch each of 100 baseball games for which a player gets $10 million per season; and a teacher gets paid $18,000 to instruct a class of 25 for 180 school days, and 15 students are not watching (so only 10 are), then the movie star and baseball player receive $1 per person watching per day, but the teacher receives $10 per person watching per day.

People get paid what they are willing to work for that other people are willing to pay them. In the case of some movie actors and sports figures, those amounts might be ridiculous, but if someone is willing to pay it, they might as well take it. Wouldn't you? Be honest now.....

Not all of them do, only the famous ones. How much movie stars make depends how famous the star. The minor ones don't make much, that is why they are constantly struggling for work. The big ones make so much that they can take months off from work.
