I work at a department store as a retail clerk and I recently put in for a promotion for a opening as a shift lead but I was passed over in favor of a woman who hasn't been there quite as long as I have. I think it was mostly because of how she looks. The store manager likes to flirt with her because of her chest, but I think she's as dumb as a brick! Plus, I already know the job and she doesn't! I know everything the shift leaders do and my manager knows that. I've been working there 3 years and I'm starting to think I will always be held back so should I quit ?

This happens all the time and although its very unfair, its life. If I were you i would begin looking for something else outside of the company. Start applying and find something new before you quit....and when you do quit, give a 2 week notice and stick to it. Your current employer will appreciate it and give you a good reference, and your new employer will respect you for doing so. Dont just quit and burn that bridge! Also, when looking for a new job dont bad mouth your current employer or co workers...just state that you are in need of more room for advancement.

Yes, but find a better job before you do.

You are more valuable to the next company if you are working now, and you have more leverage to get a better offer. Once you quit the next company doesn't have to negotiate as you don't have other options.

Quit, but do it smart and professionally, you will never regret being more professional than the company you work for.

GROW UP .. you don't always get what you want in life! Do your job, do a great job ..eventually you will be noticed. If you quit in a huff every time you don't get what you want you will go from job to job. As an employer one of the things I look for when I am hiring somebody is how long they worked at their previous jobs ... and when I hear "I quit because they didn't treat me right ..whine..whine..whine.." then THEY ARE NOT MY CHOICE .. I want a team player ..

you should quit but get another job lined up first.
Otherwise when you go for interviews, you will have to explain why you quit.
It is easier to get a job when you are in a job.

If you feel you'll never get ahead there, then it is time to move on.
