I installed a NEW starter in an 89 cherokee. I turn the key and not a sound from the starter. It seated properly and the 2 wires are tight. Is it possible for the teeth to be missaligned even though it seated, and wouldnt I at least hear it scream. Or is the solenoid my likely culprit.?
Thank you

My vote is the solenoid. With a helper, hood up, brakes on.
Stay out of the spinning things. Put you hand on the solenoid round part. Do not touch the wires and do not wear rings.
When your assistant engages the stater, the solenoid should click.
No, click...do not get the wallet out yet. There are two large wires and two small wires. When you hit the starter function, you should see 12v across the two SMALL wires. No voltage, you have a starter switch, located down on the steering column near the fuse panel problem.
Good Luck

With no sound whatsoever chances are there isn't electrical power reaching the starter.

The selenoid on these starters is the small round cylinder on the side of the starter. If it was a misalignment of the teeth, you would still be able to hear the bendix engage and the starter gear attempt to engage the flywheel.

The most likely culprit is a ground wire. Make sure that the ground clamp at the battery is making good connection.

Check connections, tap on it sound hallow? may need new one? take it off go to Auto zone, or Checker to check it on system? whatever local auto shop (Napa) then check all leads to it wires?
