Until, and unless, the diner disputes the charges your boss has just been paid twice.

As most cc purchases are done electronically, no signature is ever transmitted to the processing company unless the customer calls his card company and disputes it.

Your boss is being an a**, plain and simple

Added as an afterthought, find a new job. Your boss is a thief and life is too short to work for a jerk like that.

Your boss just ripped you off. If the charge went through the authorization process through one on the telzon type machines or the computer; the card company will contact the customer to make sure that he used the card in your place of work and everything will be fine. The majority of people are honest, so the customer will say he was there, and everything will be fine.

Your boss will have his payment. You have to decide if you want to work for a boss that is doing something illegal, by charging you for the error.

The correct thing for your boss to have done was to take you to the side (privately...not in front of the other employees) and show you the unsigned receipt. He then should have asked you to be more conscientious of checking for the signature in the future.

If you are underage, you should speak to your parents about this occurrence. Your parents may want to report your boss for illegal business practices.

If you have this happen, multiple times, and you have been spoken to about it, some companies are legally able to take the charges out of your pay, but that would have to be stated in an employee handbook which you would have been given when you were hired.

Please be aware of the fact that some customers could be dishonest, and deliberately "forget" to sign a slip in hopes that they will not have to pay for their meal if they do so. That is another reason you have to be extra diligent about checking for signatures.

Best of luck, I hope everything works out well for you. Don't worry about making an error too much, everyone makes a mistake or two while they are learning something new.

what your boss did was totally ILLEGAL demand your money back otherwise you will file civil action against him (and he could go to jail for that). if its under a certain amount most places do not require a signature anyway. Once the card was approved that's pretty much it signature or not. If he does it again go to the police and file a criminal report that is fraud pure and simple.

Although he was trying to teach you a lesson about being veryyyy irresponsible with money ,
I do believe this actions may not have been legal .
Keep a record of the charge against your pay .
If you fight it now , you may also be unemployed .
Are you ready to be out of work ?
Do go to your state labor board though , and ask them about it .
Maybe it is legal in your state ?
