i know someone who does this at work. She's hilarious! I don't mind it at all!! I think it makes her more fun for being different then every other person I come across in life.

It depends on the circumstances. For example , I would expect this from a Professor, a business person, a minister, a judge, the police............. You get the picture right? If I take this question as if you were saying this to me right now, I don't know you and you don't know me. So how would we know each other's names? Are you a student or an authority figure? This would determine how I answer this. If you are a close classmate or friend, I would expect you to call me by my nickname. If you are a student that doesn't know me and you call me by my real first name, I would just ask you to call me by my nickname. It is my preference. I have said this to my teachers too and some have called me by my nickname, others by my first name (birth name) and some by Miss....so and so. Even though I graduated from high school, old classmates still use my nickname which pleases me. I wouldn't care so much if you really didn't know me that well, but I would tell you what I wish to be called. I would ask the person (s) what name they prefer to be called. I think it's that simple. Oh yes.........my students were only allowed to call me Miss P. Sounds funny, but I dealt with problem children and my last name is very long and difficult to pronounce. It's basically the same premise as calling your parents Mom and Dad, Aunt so and so, Uncle so and so , Grandma so and so. That is respect to me. Interesting question though! I guess it becomes a habit for you but you can break that habit.
If you actually know my first and last name here....then I am out of here! lol

When you are addressing me directly? It is weird, because not too many people do it. The only situation where it might be more expected is in a situation where two people have the same first name and the last name is needed to differentiate them.

I think it's funny and I probably wouldn't even notice it after a bit.
Years and years ago I used to babysit a two year old who called me by my first and last name because his parents were friends with other women with my same (first) name and that's how they would refer to me with each other when I wasn't around. It was really cute!

I think it would depend on the circumstances. Am I your student, your teacher/instructor or a class mate.
My personal preference is for most people to call me by my first name. But there are times when I insist on Ms. (My Last Name).

Well you havent said who you were... a teacher or a student.
If a teacher called me by my 1st and last name it would be kind of annoying after a while, they usually say Mr.... or Ms. ... and the cool teachers usually call u by your first name.
If youre a student... thats just weird

As a greeting I guess it is OK. As the conversation continues, I would hope you use my first or last name only.

It is irritating -- but then I don't like people to just call me by my first name either until they know me.

Why would anyone do that on a regular basis? especially if they've known the person for a while?
