Hi

You ask that question as if PowerPoint were not a Macintosh application. PowerPoint was made on Macintosh first, then ported to Windows later. So, of course PowerPoint plays on a Mac!

New iMacs come with a 30 day trial version of Microsoft Office pre-installed. If you want to to use Office for more than 30 days you have to purchase it. Student/Teacher edition is about $125 US, and other prices apply for regular purchases. PowerPoint is available all by itself if you don't need the rest of Microsoft Office. Hint: Use the Remove Office tool to get rid of the trial version before installing the paid-for version.

Some people get by with Sun Microsystem's OpenOffice product or one of its offshoots. It was made on a PC first and then ported to Mac much later. It really looks like a PC application because, well, it is. It's free and it can open and save some presentations made in PowerPoint. They will look very different in OpenOffice, so if accurate reproduction is important to you then OpenOffice isn't for you.

The new iWork v. 8 has a power point like application, (just better) it comes with the iMac. You can also get a mac version of Microsoft Office which includes power point and the files are fully compatible with the Windows version.

Apple's iWorks 08 (about $80) has a program called Keynote which will open and run Power Point presentations. It will save in formats that a PC can read. Or you can buy Office for a Mac for a couple hundred. iWorks will also read and save Word and Excel documents
