have any of you been denied an adoption, or know someone who has, due to religious beliefs, or no beliefs at all?

our adoption failed because of financial reasons, but i chose an agency that downplayed religious qualifications (at least in the application). there are, however, plenty of agencies that state, up front, that they are a christian adoption agency, or jewish adoption agency...

Haven't experienced this, but curious to know if you have...and if so, are you talking about denial by the government or denial by a private agency?

I am aware that some private adoption agencies limit adoptions to a specific faith, especially those that allow the birth mother to choose a family. I think that is only right...if I had a child and wanted to give him to another family to raise, I think I have a right to be picky about anything I want including the religious beliefs of the prospective parents.

If the discrimination is being practiced by the US government that would tick me off. The government has no right to discriminate on the basis of religious beliefs (including the lack thereof...or race, or gender, or marital status or any of the other distinctions covered by existing anti-discrimination laws) and it ticks me off when they do so especially given the number of children living in group homes and other less than ideal circumstances. If law-abiding citizens want to give a home to a child that doesn't have one, the government should get the heck out of the way, especially in the US where we have a pile of laws designed to protect us from government discrimination on the basis of a long list of characteristics!

Good question.
I went through the process of adopting 8 years ago. And while the adoption wasn't denied, I did get the impression that my lack of religion was an obstacle in the process. Nothing overt (and therefore actionable) but things like changes in facial expressions, tone of voice, and choice of phrasing after discovering I was an atheist led me to believe it was an issue for some of the social workers. I do believe the process would have been less difficult for us if we had been a Christian family.
But it was all worth it. My son is the best thing that ever happened to me!

I heard stories. There was a judge some where that didn't hand a boy over to the father, sent the boy to the foster home because the father was a pagan. He believed the boy needed a good christian family. I will try to find a link for you. But then again, that really isn't adoption.

Jesus could do what replaced into ultimate for the newborn. If Jesus knew that a kin replaced into solid and with somewhat greater help is each and every of the guy necessary then he could supply that. even with the shown fact that if he knew that this replaced into not the final place for the newborn then he could undertake the newborn or detect a competent adoptive kin for the newborn. for woman who're tricked out of the youngsters needless to say god / Jesus does not approve of this. even with the shown fact that it basically between the different incorrect doings of this international.

No but I know some people who were refused adoption because of their lifestyle choices (i.e. they were gay, and were denied the right to even take care of a kid...)
