Charity is "the pure love of Christ," or "everlasting love" (Moroni 7:47; 8:17). The prophet Mormon taught: "Charity suffereth long, and is kind, and envieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things" (Moroni 7:45; see also 1 Corinthians 13:4–7).
Jesus Christ is the perfect example of charity. In His mortal ministry, He always "went about doing good," teaching the gospel and showing tender compassion for the poor, afflicted, and distressed (see Matthew 4:23; Mark 6:6; Acts 10:38). His crowning expression of charity was His infinite Atonement. He said, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13). This was the greatest act of long-suffering, kindness, and selflessness that we will ever know.
The Savior wants all people to receive His love and to share it with others. He declared to His disciples: "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another" (John 13:34–35). In relationships with family members and others, followers of Christ look to the Savior as their example and strive to love as He loves, with unfailing compassion, patience, and mercy.

Compared to what, well....compared to anything else it is the best. If you don't have charity then any other spiritual gift would be useless. Since spiritual gifts are usually to help others, if you don't have love for others than the gifts would be good for nothing.

Charity isn't a spiritual gift, it is a fruit of the spirit. (Spiritual gifts are like: preaching, teaching, prophecy, giving, etc --- a spiritual 'talent' particular to that person, while the fruit of the Spirit is required of all Christians) The reason it is the most important is because it is love, and all fruit of the spirit grows out of love.
Jesus said that all of the commandments hang off of these:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
Why? Well, because if you are doing these two, you are also being patient, kind, gentle, self-controlled, etc. There is no way to be loving and not be the other fruit of the spirit.
Does that help? :)

It is what Jesus called the second great commandment. The first great commandment is to love God with all your heart. Doing good deeds to others is the best thing you can do. If the entire world practiced charity there would be world peace. Giving to others that are in need is very important. Being charitable to others and not expecting anything in return, ah, now that is the true key to having the spirit of charity.

Ben Hur. no longer that i'm all that particular that's traditionally precise or that I join anybody particular faith, in spite of the undeniable fact that that's a effectual action picture and the trial and crucifixion scenes will deliver you to tears. The conversion of Judah Ben-Hur(Charlton Heston) on the top is very shifting. The sound music is somewhat effectual. different than for that that's in user-friendly terms a large depiction of the Roman empire, the brutality of the chariot races and video games, and the domination of Rome over something of the international and why the empire had to fall quickly. The action picture is spiritually significant to me using fact it illustrates the conversion technique of Judah Ben Hur and on the comparable time inspires the comparable thoughts interior the viewer.

We have been taught that charity is God's love. So for years I believed that but got nowhere in the scriptures. Then one day I found the true definition of charity. It is the revelation of God's love to me. Now when I read the bible and the revelation of the scripture that I am reading jumps off the page at me, I know that God is revealing Himself(Love) to me.

Charity is the selfless giving of something without expectation of receiving anything. This is something that god holds high respect for, and will earn you an extra jewel on your crown.

Charity = love, right?
Without love, whatever we do is incomplete, at best. This is why in 1Cor 13, it ends with, "faith, hope and love...but the greatest of these is love."
True love is unconditional. The list in the "Love Chapter" shows us what love is and does (action). Love is not a feeling - it is an action.

Charity is fueled by kindness and caring, dipping into love for your fellow mankind. You give of your self when you are charitable.
