I have tried everything. Proactive, Clean & Clear (which helped a little, but not much) Clearasil (did nothing) Nuetregina, and several home redimies. I have pretty bad face acne, awful bacne, and now I'm getting chest acne (figures, huh?) I also have some flat, awful-looking acne scars, and dry skin to top it all off. What can I do??? (Please, not home redimies.) The soonest dermatologist appointment I was able to get isn't untill a month from now. Plus, I'm on a budget.
Think you can help me? I'll love you forever... lols

Okay. I've never had much bacne or chest acne. HOWEVER, my face has recently started to recover from MASSIVE breakouts. There were areas where I couldn't even spot a patch of skin cause the bumps were so close to each other. I'm sure lots of folks have told you that it's your hormones and it'll pass. It will, but for some it doesn't pass for a while. For folks like us it takes a lot more than waiting to get better. I've figured out stuff that truly helps if you're willing to read on:
1. Never use multiple formulas or brands simultaneously or make sudden switches to new brands. Your skin is acne prone because it's WEAK. Putting on one chemical after another will only weaken your skin more and ruin the moisture balance.
2. Don't wash your face too frequently. It's good to get that bacteria off, but if you do it too frequently your skin will, once again, get weaker. Soaps and scrubbing formulas all have chemical content that shouldn't be applied to the skin frequently. Minimize face washing to three (or even better, two) times a day. Spread out the washing ritual (once in the morning, once in the afternoon or early in the evening, once before bed). There IS an exception. That's when you do certain events that involve sweating. You want that sweat off. The salt will kill germs, but as you get sticky your sweat will collect bacteria.
3. Avoid touching your face. You have weak skin, meaning that any small amount of bacteria can easily multiply in your pores. Your hands frequently touch things with germs. It's okay to eat chips or touch around on the computer with those hands, but they don't belong on your face.
4. Wash your back and chest thoroughly. It's easy to lose track of your washing and only focus on your hair and face, and maybe your limbs. You need to get a washcloth around your back and you need to scrub (gently so you don't harm your back... scrub a bit harder once the bacne clears up a lot). Scrub your chest as well. Your bacne and chest acne are most likely due to sweat.
5. Keep the treatment SIMPLE. Don't go around lookin for the strongest wash, the strongest lotion, etc. That whole mix is what makes things worse. Keep to one brand. All brands are basically the same. They simply use different concentrations of the same chemicals and claim they are stronger than each other.
I bought the Neutrogena Advanced Solutions Acne Kit. It cost me 20 dollars. It includes an acne cleanser, a nighttime benzoyl peroxide lotion and a daytime oil-free sun screen lotion. This set is the combination that quickly killed my acne. Here's how it works:
A: You wake up in the morning and use the cleanser to scrub your face (salicylic acid). You apply the datime sun screen lotion (which protects your weak skin against UV and other harmful sun rays)... It's VERY important to stay out of intense sun. There is no worse way to damage the skin through natural means. Keep that sunblock or sun screen on, even when you're out for just a second.
B: You exercise, you sweat. The sweat mixes with the lotion, bad combo. You finish up, eat. You get back in the bathroom, use the cleanser and reapply the sun screen lotion. You enjoy the rest of the day.
C. You get ready for bed. You shower, brush your teeth, etc. You wash your face with the cleanser. You apply the benzoyl peroxide lotion. You can stay awake for an hour or so. The benzoyl peroxide is fairly strong. It kills bacteria while you sleep. You go to bed. Wake up and start at A.
Repeat these steps with the product and you'll see DEFINITE improvements. Even a dude with seriously weak skin like me has seen the advantages.
FINALLY: If home treatments have NO EFFECT, go see a dermatologist. There is a laser treatment procedure (which I underwent) that helps to close up the oil pores so as to reduce oil production. Acne is basically an inflamed pore or hair follicle. When the skin produces too much oil (which is actually a protective barrier against bacteria) the excess oil can sometimes get trapped in the pores along with bacteria. The inflammation from the battle between body and bacteria causes the bump to form. The laser treatment helps to solve that problem.
Once you've gotten rid of pretty much all the acne and your face has become dry, there are bound to be scars. Go see the dermatologist about those. If the scars are severe go see a plastic surgeon and have a couple chemical peels done.
If you have any questions, feel free to email me at ktownfarmboy@yahoomail.com. I've been picking up a LOT of data on dermatology, skincare, etc. I'm no expert, but from experience I've learned how to care for my skin.

I agree, and suggest you wait for your dermatologist appointment. I suffer from acne as well and it took me a long time to finally go see a doctor after becoming very frustrated with over the counter products not working.
Make sure to use an antibacterial soap when cleansing your face and don't over-do it with astringents, etc. This will only aggrivate the skin. One thing you could try that seems to calm the skin and reduce inflammation is tea tree oil. The Body Shop sells many tea tree oil products that seemed to help me. Hope this helps...

I take pills for my acne. They're called Ery Tabs and they really work for me and my sister takes a pill called Tetracycline for her acne. They've worked very well for the both of us.My dermatologist prescribed it for us and we also use a sulfur cream at night for our faces.Seeing a dermatologist is the best way to go and the money should be worth the results.
P.S. and by the way, stress makes acne alot worse.

Ancient Chinese Remedy:
Take off any metal (it stops energy from flowing)
Place R palm on L calf

Put pillows anywhere you need support, because now, you're going to RELAX. 30 minutes at least once a day. Watch TV. Chill.
My teenager's oily face turned into a baby's butt after a couple of days on this regimen.

I would recommend a product called clear now. It's similar to proactiv but I have found that it works way better.
If you live in the United States or Canada, you can order it at www.jewel.mychoices.biz

You don't need to wait for your dermo appointment to get prescription. Your usual doctor can prescribe acne meds in the meantime. But you definitely want to meet with the dermo so that he/she can suggest a skin-care routine or give you specialized medicine.

I would not pop any pimples unless they are white heads. Use Clean and Clear blackhead eraser it works for getting rid of blackheads/spots. For the 4 big pimples I recommend washing your face with a cleanser and using a mask. It will take down these pimples. Good luck!!!

i think the best thing for you to do is to just wait for the dermatologist appointment. they have types of treatments that can be done, but as you said, you are on a budget. maybe the derm has some cheaper alternatives! good luck!
