If you are a parent, you will get some experience in doing this because children cannot always reel in their emotions. Their anger is so raw.
I don't know your particular situation, but you are right that when someone is angry there is much more to them than what they are experiencing at the moment.
As some of the answers so far reveal, anger is not really the problem, it is how we express it. Anger doesn't hurt people, it is what people do with anger that hurts.
A wonderful book that you may like to read is "Anger: Wisdom for Cooling the Flames" by Thich Nhat Hanh

There are many reasons for a someone to become an angry soul. When our needs aren't being met.And people disappoint us and let us down. Some of us have been beaten down so much that we give up.But there are some people who will reach out and show us compassion and acceptance and who will over look our mistakes and love us.It's hard to receive a helping hand when we are angry and hurt. And sometimes we have to be the first to reach out to someone else who has been through the same thing we have gone through.I know i have learned to be a good listener a shoulder to cry on.If you need someone to listen, i can be that person.

It depends on what the anger is about.
Is it about someone having done them wrong?
Then I would say to concentrate on hating that person as much as you can for 10minutes. Then realize let that you must let that hate go and love and forgive that person their wrongs , so that you can be whole once again. The hating them for 10minutes just helps you to clear your mind.
Is it because they are having a bad day?
I don't know how to handle every situation when it comes up. So with a lot of them I just ask them if they need a giant pillow to hit. If so I will be that pillow. Please don't hurt me. They usually decline or take it in good fun.
Mostly I just listen to why they are so angry and let them deal with it as they talk it out.

it wasn't untill I forgave the person who caused all the hurt and anger in my life, that I actually began to feel god's love for me.Just as christ forgave me, I have to forgive others. I wanted to be accepted my whole life and I have after letting go of the pain, for the first time in my life, peace in my heart.
Pray, forgive ,and seek the Lord. A peace that I saw with others but never was there for me untill I forgave.

Joh 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. That is the best I can say is that in Jesus we have peace for the troubled soul If you need to talk feel free to respond and I will share the Words of God with you and also let you get to know me. I am a Disciple of Jesus, and a Fireman/Chaplain.

"I am your god. I am your father. I am your comfort. No matter what, I shall always love you. I wait only for my child. I grieve when you leave and I'm overjoyed when you come back."
"A caged bird that sings is more free than a wild lark."
"What makes a Joshua tree beautiful is its struggle."
But in my own personal words, yes, all of us have days like that. I've been in deep depression and anger before because I felt no one truly loved me. But after spending time with friends and family, I was happy to be corrected. I felt loved and accepted.

I have a word for all angry souls. The Lord Jesus Christ died for their sins, He was buried and took their sins away and He rose again for their justification. Believe and trust in that and their angry will go away. 1 Corinthians 15: 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1 Corinthians 15: 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Romans 4: 25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

For He Himself is our peace.......take your hurt and burden to the Lord, and He will give you peace and comfort. He loves you with an everlasting love. Forgive those who have hurt and offended you, and you will truly find the peace in your heart you're looking for. It may not be easy to forgive, but it will make all the difference. I will be praying for you. (((Twinsma)))
