No. Bigger. God is a Judge.

Your conscience is the cop.

A policeman works in law enforcement. But Jesus showed us that God is extraordinarily patient, like a father who turns over his inheritance to his prodigal son, and yet who welcomes him back after he has spent everything on prostitutes and dissolute living.

Because God lets us make our own decisions throughout life and only intervenes in a final judgment, he does not take the role of a cop, but rather of the Supreme Court.

Cheers,
Bruce

No. God is not a cop. He is good, in the fullest sense of the word. He loves you, and wants you to spend eternity with Him, so Jesus has taken the punishment you deserve. He is not sitting in heaven waiting for you to mess up so that He can fry you with a bolt of lightning. Though all the world WILL eventually be judged, right now He is willing--and wants--to forgive you.

I think God is like a father. A father cannot make the choices for the son, but he can tell him about what he is about to embark on.

No one makes you do right or wrong, that is your choice. This is not a religious thing, it's a matter of ethics.

Good question. And is praying equivalent to bribing him with donuts?
