my rottweiler has a large lump on her back between her shoulder blades, due to her being 9yrs old i thought that as it does not hurt i won't take her to vets incase they give me bad news. But the other day she was rolling about on her back and it popped,a lot of thick goo came out and i cleaned it with salt water but when you look closely at it you can see in side and its fleshey . Even knows the lump has emptyed alot there is still quite a lump underneath. Does anyone no what this could be?She has another ball like lump on her leg but thats never popped...By the way she does not seem in any pain as shes still rolling about and playing... Thank you to anyone who can advise. Rachael

You need to take her to the VET ASAP.
I'M a Vol animal rescuer/owner /advocate for abused animals .
I know from all o well that it sounds like cyst but it maybe something even more serious then that!
None of us like to hear bad news when it comes to our baby animals but after all that is part of being a responsible pet owner and if you really love her ,you will take her to the VET Asap!!

God Bless and let us know how she is after you take her the Vet!

The lump is a cyst and I would take her into the Vet to have him look at it. There could be something in it that still hasn't come out. He will probably irrigate it with a saline solution and maybe send some home with you for you to irrigate it at home. My dog had one on his neck, it burst the evening we noticed it. I cleaned it out as well as I could and I hot packed it. It healed but about 6 weeks or so later, it was there again. This time the Vet did surgery on it and inserted a drain tube. She looked for a foreign body in it but found nothing. After it healed that time, it never came back.

It sounds like either an oil gland cyst or an abscess that has broken. You don't want it to get worse,so you should take her to the vet right away,as they will finish draining it and give her antibiotics.Nine is not that old,and it's most likely not cancer. She could have another 5 years left with you,so you need to take her to make sure she's OK.

hmm i would definately take it to the vet it could be a serious infection and the only thing i can think of is it might could have been a bite from a venomous bug/animal but id imagine it would be painful if that was so

It's likely a lipoma (benign fatty lump) but your vet should check it out, plus the one on her leg. They do a fine needle aspiration to check the lump, doesn't hurt the dog at all. (My dog has several, and we have them aspirated yearly to make sure they're still just fatty lumps.)

Sounds like a sebaceous cyst- but I would still have those lumps checked. Rotts are very proned to cancer and the earlier you catch it, the better prognosis you have. Good Luck

sounds like a nasty infected cyst, she needs to get some antibiotics going so she doesn't get the infection going into her spinal area/fluid and all, in other words before it gets so infected it kills her...
