OK, so I began a new year of school (I'm at the top, I mean TOP of my class) and am in some challenging courses. But to maintain this, I know I need concentration, awareness, happiness and great work habits.

However, lately (It began last May just prior to exams) I have:

1. Felt tired after school (RIGHT after) and just wanted to sleep

2. I pull out a book to do work (and it's simple work most of the time) and I just stare at the page like I don't know it (but I do). I just can't seem to concentrate clearly anymore.

3. I've noticed I've become somewhat more cynical of others (I get bothered easily) and have to be in complete silence to concentrate.

4. I lack sleep (5.5-6 hours a day because of school) but the last two nights I got 7-7.5 and I was still tired.

5. Also, in the morning that I don't get enough sleep I have stomach pains like I'm sick. I eat and feel better 1-2 hrs later.

6. I always feel dead...I'm not as lively anymore. I lack enthusiasm to

do anything.

7. I eat right, I'm healthy, have no problems (mental or physical)

What could it be???

I'm a guy also! HELP!!!!!

Soemtimes the obvious answer is the right answer. You my dear sir, are overworked. Stress plays a mojor role in exhaustion. Mental exhaustion is sometimes a more COMPLETE exhaustion than physical. As a student in high school, you should still be trying to get about 8-9 hours of sleep per night. Also, when it comes to study, you should do no more than 30 minutes at a time and follow up with a ten to fifteen minute break. I would also suggest eating breakfast every morning, because it does not just kickstart the metabolism, it also starts your brain up the brain. Some people might suggest caffeine, but givent he fact that is truly one of the most addictive substances on the planet, I would forgo it, and use daily supplements that are age appropriatethat contain a nice mix of zinc, potassium, vitamn C. Potassium found in bananas are great Blueberries are a widely known "brainfood" that helps focus and concentration, for those times when you are looking at the page but don't really comprehend. ALso you might want to eat a good 1/2 cup of those bad boys the morning of a test. You also mentioned that you can open a book sometimes and simply syare at it, as if you don't comprehend what you are seeing. That is also a sign of over exertion, and you need to really focus on getting enough rest. Also, I would suggest putting your books down at least an hour before bed, and doing nothing but whatever is relaxing for you; sometimes a hot shower right before bed, some soft music, prefferably instrumental music, helps to relax you as well. School has become a pressure cooker, and as a parent, I see the stress that kids go through. You are taking in a large amounts of new information everydayand needing to memorize the majority of it in a small amount of time. That is a large feat, not something that most adults do at work, because we usually do jobs of repetition. Try a few of these techniques and do your best to make them become a ritual for you. The body performs at its peak when it has a regular sleep cycle, and intaking healthy foods. All the best my dear! Blessings....

omg you sound exactly like me. school just started 2 days ago and i was sooo lively but even though the first day was just like 4.5 hours long i took a 4 hour nap when i got home! i dont understand it =/
im a junior and im taking 4 ap's but it's not like ive gotten soo much work yet.

i guess school takes a lot of effort both academically and socially.
tips:
*drink LOTS of water (it will help a lot according to my english teacher...)
*avoid caffeine b/c after the first few hours of energy you will be much more tired afterwards
*watch tv while doing hw.. lol it works for me!
*do something that de-stresses you. it could be exercise, watching a movie, hanging out with friends

good luck! we're on the same boat =p
