Of course there are other things in immigration policy. This is just a start for thinking.

Here is my idea: All of the American countries and Greenland when it is independant from Danmark have an immigration agreement for their citizens to each other. We give priority to these classes:

1. Close family of immigrants: Spouses, children, parents. Family values?

2. People with education and skills. They contribute the most in any country. This lets them vote with their feet more easy. And that sends a clear straight message to the politicians. And no offense but don't be suprised if some educated and intelligent Americans start thinking about life in Argentina or Chile or Costa Rica!

3. Political refugees. This is to help keep our governments honest and dissidents safe. If there are human rights crimes by a government than people and their family should be able to go to another country and be safe there. Yes I know that we need to be sure that someone is really a refugee.

Do you think that this is a good thing?

If not that's ok too but than could you please tell me why you don't like this and do you have a better idea? :)

Unfortunately parents are the problem. They are the ones who drain medicaid, social security etc in preference to our own people who have been paying in, due to their relative poverty. We need to take care of our own first. The same goes for having quality schools and hospitals back in immigrant heavy areas before bringing in more kids except in exceptional work need areas like health care.

Everything must be balanced with having the infrastructure to take care of our own PLUS extra to take care of the newcomers.

Unfortunately the huge influx over the last 30 years has put our own services into a huge deficit. Our schools are failing our children, and talking first about how many MORE to bring in without addressing that issue is frankly a non-starter with me.

I have a more simple idea; when one wants to immigrate her to the US give the head of the alien household a temp Visa. This will allow him or her into the country to take a test based on basic American Family values and American History. If they pass give them a check for $1000.00. Give them a three month Visa card. Thus giving them time to get a job. If after three months they still have a job, allow the family to come in, max 5. then give them a standard VISA and with any illegal crime or activity deport them. If they lose their job they have 4 weeks to get a new one. If they dont deport them. After seven years take the citizen test.
